Question about the S6 Edge

Matthew2D

Newbie
So my upgrade for my S4 is available in September and I'm either the gonna get the S6 or S6 Edge. I can get the S6 for $100 on contract and the S6 Edge for $150. My question is, is the edge feature really just a gimick? I understand it has night clock, and some cool contact features but does it justify paying the extra $50?

I'm concerned that I won't use the edge features that much.

Personally me, I never got the edge for its functionality. I got it for its design which I found the features quite useless. I heard in the coming months there will be an update to use the edge like the note edge (select apps from the edge and such)

Would I go back and buy it again if I could? Absolutely not as its a beautiful device but it's got too many flaws for the daily user.

Is the screen on the s6 edge a bit smaller on the side minus the edges than the s6?

i love my s6 edge i got it for the looks alone dont really use many of the edge functions apart from the night clock which is kinda neat.
I loved my edge at first but that slowly dwindled down with the problems I've had out of it ranging from orientation going out (related to fast charging), spiderweb Crack from a drop in its case (which voids the manufacturer warrant replacement) and a hard brick from a simple root related procedure that's resulting in me having to file a $200 insurance claim.

I have heard of the "orientation problem" with the accelerometer due to overheating when fast charging. Fortunately for me it has never been an issue. I fast charge just about every day straight from work and it is never not fast charged or caused a problem. Now whether I am lucky, or my experience is the norm I don't know. It is irrelevant, if there is a problem on some S6 edges (and s6s) with fast charging it needs correcting, either with a replacement non faulty device, or, if possible, a software update before the damage is done.

As for your "spider crack" and your bricking it with a "simple rooting procedure", both these are down to you. Not your S6 edge.

You dropped it. It broke. It is glass front and back. While a case and screen protector (when fitted) should afford some protection from drops, and the device should be stronger than Tiffany glass, depending on various variables, one or two of any device no matter how dropped will break. You have been unlucky.

Anything to do with rooting is only simple if you have read, and more importantly fully understood what you have read. Even if you fully understand what you are trying to do and it has been done a million times before without harm to a million different devices, with anything "root" you run a risk. To know and understand that are two different things.

I hope you get a new, problem free S6 edge out of your insurance claim.

Let me correct you, I never blamed my s6e for my root problems, stated general problems I ran into.

I've been a rooter/modder for quite a few years now that happens to change roms and such at least every other day so I'm quite experienced in that department and know the risk involved. This just happened to be a freak flash that went wrong.

I don't use the "limited" Edge features at all. I wouldn't spend the xtra money if I could do it over.

I use the night clock as my alarm clock every night, and I use the people edge all the time. I've also used the fast charging every night since I got the phone in May. No problems here, and the screen rotation works just as it should.
