Question about unlocked/flashed phones

Hey all,

I have Verizon wireless but am looking to buy a gently used DROID phone on ebay or another site instead of having to wait another 18 months to get my discount in store. I found a phone that I am interested in that was originally for verizon wireless. However, the person claims that the DROID 2 is "flashed" and "able to be used on the Cricket network" now. Does this mean I should steer clear of this phone? If I can still use it on the Verizon network and there will not be any problems then I will not have a problem with it but if this may lead to problems in the future I'd like to know ahead of time.

So can someone give me some advice/explain this to me a little better?

Thanks.

He probably means its been rooted. If so, its fairly straightforward to unroot it and return it to stock. I would guess that you would need to do this in order for it to work with verizon service.

I do not know about the rooting part, but I read a hole bunch of people complaining about Cricket yesterday. I would steer clear of it.

Flashing != rooting. Unlocking isn't relevant to CDMA devices unless they're GSM/CDMA hybrids and then it's only relevant to the GSM portion.

Unless you're willing to flash it back to Verizon then don't go with it.

Thanks guys for your helpful feedback. Sounds like more trouble than it is worth and I am going to stick with something that has it reset to factory defaults with a clean ESN for Verizon.
