Question about unread counts

I know I can add the unread count feature to my dock icons using launcherpro. But using desktop visualizer for off-dock is there a way to add them?

*EDIT* I see it's as easy as adding a count widget....so, nevermind.

**RE-EDIT** OK no it does not work like that because I can't customize the icon...thinking out loud, still need help.

SMS Unread Count will work for Calls, SMS, and Gmail. You can also create custom icons and place them in the associated folder in /data/ I believe. Great app!
