question about why apps keep opening themselves?

Ok hi everyone. Im sorry if this has been posted but I am brand new. I just went from an iPhone 4 to a Samsung Captivate Glide. So far I really liek it especially the ability to customize everything. But my question is why even with the aps disabled in juice defender and when I dont even click them to open them do they open and I have to use app killer to kill them? Examples are like google maps, asphalt driver, gallery and sportscenter app. I didnt open any of these and they say they are open and running. Please help guys. This is the main reason why i said screw it to the htc inspire when i had it for 2 weeks and I dont want to regret buying this phone casue i cant return it now!

That is fine. Don't use any application killer or juice defender, they use more battery and do more harm than they save.

Some apps open at startup so they can cache the app for later use. I use Twitter a lot, so my twitter app will open at startup to help cache for later on. I rarely use XYZ app, so that app will not open or remained open.

Short answer: Don't worry about it. Android handles processes and memory automatically and efficiently for you. Do NOT use a task killer! Relax and enjoy your phone.
