I got a Samsung Transform yesterday for Sprint, and of course updated the software to version 2.2. Im curious, on the home screen and application screen the phone will not flip to landscape unless you slide the keyboard out. But on any application I open it will. Is it supposed to be like this or did I get a bad phone?

your phone is perfectly normal. The only time homescreens rotate without the keyboard would be when you set them to. Example, LP, ADW

LP = LauncherPro
ADW = ADW Launcher (Does ADW actually mean anything?)

A launcher is an app that controls the homescreen and the app drawer. E.g. Samsung phones by default come with a launcher known as TouchWiz, while HTC phones use Sense.

Would you recommend either of these, or just let the phone run the way it was designed to run hah?

I'd highly recommend ADW.

The nice thing, though, is that both are free. You can just try them both and uninstall the one you don't like.

wuz up gang I'm new to the site & android ..I got a transform too...I dont know if I should ask this here or not but..if u root ur phone does it run faster/ smoother..or should I update the JIT(saw this in another thread)...& last do any of the antivirus actually work? if so which is recommended..thanx

bryantb and frenchconnect, if you prefer not to root your Transform as much as possible, make sure you read the following threads to run your Transform as efficiently as possible:

Also, if you were wondering whether to use Task Killers or not, here are some threads to read (I don't use Task Killers or kill apps, but I do use Task Managers (the Samsung Task manager that was installed in the 2.2 Froyo update or Process Managers (e.g. Astro) or menu->settings->applications->running services to keep track of running apps or RAM usage):

BTW, the Amazon App Store free "paid" app of the day (until midnight) is Fancy Widget Pro. I use the free version and I highly recommend it if you want an HTC sense like clock and weather widget. You might want to wait until tomorrow or the next few days to access the clock and weather skins store (after installing the widget to see all the available skins) or the Fancy Widgets FAQ page on their website as they seem to have been overwhelmed by the traffic today. The Transform cannot run live wallpaper unless rooted so I'm not sure how the animated weather skins that you can choose on Fancy Widget will work, especially since I only got the Pro version today and haven't used it yet. The Amazon App store is worth installing because of the free paid apps every day (see their website for the installation instructions). I hope this helps.

Personally I would root. I can link you to my guide if you'd like.
Back OT, I prefer Zeam launcher. Many more options.

Thank you for your post. I am a newbie smartphone user with a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. My daughters got it for me. I want to change the homescreens and what I call icons, but not sure how. I keep seeing terms like launcher and root...etc. and don't know what they mean. Your post was very helpful. I will keep reading posts because I don't want to screw anything up.
