question from an apparent ignorant user

Silliness

Lurker
I do not know where this belongs or where to start at this point. I am having some issues:

1. How do i cancel an alarm without deleting the alarm. I have an alarm that sounds a minute or 2 before each of my class periods end (i am a teacher) i dont want to delete them on off days like snow days but stop them from sounding just for today.

2. How do i keep my pics from going to photos and gallery. Do i delete or disable one ans if so which one.

3. I use textra because i want my notifications to tell me who has texted me - can this be done with the stock app?

4. I am having lots of trouble sending pics and videos via text and email. It seems the setting to send as mms is something i have to set each time. Are there any pointers i need to know when setting things up or using the apps. Do i need a 3rd party app Or anything?

5. I keep reading about bloat- do i need to delete or disable some built in things to help my phone work better? How do i find some of these things and disable them?

Ok so this is a long post and admin me fuss cuz i seem to be all over the place. .i was great with my blackberry touch years ago then got iphone lazy. Now i have the note 4 and i just wanna find out how this thing works.

1. Depending on the alarm app you are using, you should be able to adjust each alarm to only be active on the days you want it to be. Usually there is a button of some sort for each day of the week within the alarm setting.

2.Gallery is I beleive the samsung app and photos is the Google app, it is not taking any extra space to have it on both. You could disable one of them or just ignore the one you do not use.

3.I do not use Textra, so I am not exactly sure what you are looking for here. When I get a text with the stock app it will tell me in the notification who it is from, but if there are texts from more than 1 person it will not.

4.This mught vary by carrier, I have not had a problem sending them on AT&T with Google Hangouts.

5.Bloat can mean a couple things. In general it is anything on your phone that is included by the manufacturer, carrier or Google that you have no need for. Samsung includes a lot of stuff that you cannot remove from the phone, but you can disable. Usually that is the same for the carrier, AT&T includes a bunch of stuff that needs to be either turned off or uninstalled. To disable any of these, in the app drawer long press on an app; you will have the option to either create a shorcut, uninstall or disable the app. Look through all those apps that were included and decide if you need them, if not I suggest disabling or uninstalling them, you can always get them back if you want. From what I have heard Verizon is the worst offender for this.

Hope some of this helps, enjoy the Note, it is a great phone!

@GESage. Thank you

1. The alarm is the stock one. I have it set for m-f but (like today) i didnt have the option to just turn it off for the day. I only seen deleting or editing the alarm. Is there a way to just switch it off? (There are about 12 alarms i use during the work week)

2. Got it

3. With the stock app it tells me text message recieved or it gives me a preview of the message. No inbetWeen. So i downloaded textra because it allows me to see who is texting me without the preview.

4. I will be switching to hangouts as my default for a little bit. See how that works. Maybe the solution was under my nose the whole time. Then i can find a 3rd party app for notifications

5. Bloat - any tips on what is useless?

one more question. Is there a way to have the camera remember settings so indont have to reset them everytime i go to take a pic?

If the stock alarm does not let you easily adjust the day/times, I would just download a better one. There are quite a few good, free ones available on the play store.

I may check out textra, although hangouts seems to work for what I need.

Basically Samsung and the carriers include a lot of stuff that is either redundant or hurts your battery. For example, Samsung has S Voice, which is the same as, if less useful than, OK Google. Carriers are worse, I just disable everything AT&T includes. I don't have experience with other carriers. If you see something you never use and don't want it, disable it.

I'm not sure why your camera would not save the settings, I have not had that happen. it should just keep it where you had it the last time you used it.
