Root Question on App2SD(EXT3) and Redux v1.2

Hi All,

I am new here(first post), but have been reading through this forum for a quite a while. I finally successfully managed to root my Desire and install Redux v1.2. (S-ON)

However, after I installed Redux, I didn't partition my SD card for App2SD+ up until now.

Currently I am just using the regular App2SD feature on 2.3, but I'd like to start using the App2Sd+ feature with my new partitioned SD card. ( I'm using a separate non-partitioned SD card right now)
I know that App2SD+ installs the apps in the EXT3 partition.

If I want to copy files over from my current SD card into the new partitioned SD card, would I have to re-install all the apps again so it installs in the EXT3 partition?

Also, are there any other steps I have to take to have the apps install into the EXT3 partition or does it do that automatically?

I tried to look through other posts, but I am getting really confused so if you could help out it would be very appreciated!

Partition the new card and copy data from old. Including hidden files (most importantly .android_secure)

Once you boot up with the partitioned card in, the script will do its job.

You may want to go to the redux site and download and flash the add on to move dalvik cache too
 
Sorry just another quick question,

After I put the partitioned SD card in (w/all files copied on to it),
it seems to be hanging on my carriers splash screen.

Is this normal?
 
Shouldnt do. Partitioned with Gparted?

Definitely got .android_secure folder on there?
 
It wasn't partitioned with Gparted, had my friend do it with linux console(?)
I did copy the android_secure folder in there.

If I put my old non-partitioned card in, it boots up fine.
However, all the apps that were installed in the phone's Rom is gone (when checking with App2SD app)....

I guess the paritioning wasn't done right?

How can I restore all the apps I had installed on my internal memory?

The market app is gone also....
 
Market gone? So can you boot now?

Edit> So it boots with the old sd. Does the old sd still have .android_secure on there?

Did you take a titanium or nandroid backup before doing all this?
 
First I copied all files from my non partitioned card to my partioned card.
When booting, it hanged on the carrier screen and waited around half an hour.
then I powered down and inserted my non partitioned card back and booted.
It successfully booted but all apps previously installed in the internal memory were gone even the market app, but Gmail app and some others are still there...

Any ideas? Do I have to reinstall the rom again?
 
Sorry I didn't see your edit.
Just checked it seems there's nothing in the android secure folder.
I also didn't make a nandroid backup after installing redux
 
I took out the partitioned card after it hanged on boot, and checked the actual data, all data was deleted???!

With my non-partitioned card, I had some apps in SD but they all worked. Only apps that were only installed in internal memory were all deleted for some reason.

I couldn't really figure it out so I reinstalled the ROM again (w/ non-partitioned card)

I checked my new card via PC with easeus partition manager and found that the EXT3 partition wasn't showing up. It just says 'unallocated space'.
I tried to change the 'unallocated space' to EXT3 but didn't work.
Tried to format the card and merge it into 1 FAT32 partition again, but was unsuccessful...

Are there any useful tools to re-format the SD cards?? easeus partition manager doesn't seem to work at all...
