Help question on flashing firmware and CSC

i want to update to a newer firmware, KF2 or KF4
any comments on which is better at the moment? i heard some say that KF2 is better than KF4 so im debating this also..
secondly, i dont fully understand the CSC part of it.. on the xda-developers forum, there's a download for ZSKF4 with a hong kong CSC, and XXKF2 with polish CSC. wat difference is there between the CSC.. and the ZS instead of XX in front of the KF version, does it also make a difference?

im currently running XWKE7 with KE4 phone, and XEU CSC.. is it alright if i flash a CSC thats different? no data loss etc? thanks! :)
 
Samsung seem to bee releasing these updates in such quick succession that I doubt there are any major differences between KF2 and KF4. But I am still on KF1 so I can't really tell you anything.

there are some differences, major being debatable.
some remove the music hub, some remove the SMS themes, etc.

really wish Samsung released change notes
 
I just stuck a sim-free product code on mine... XEU I think it was?

Then I just flashed KE2 back on, and updated to KE7 finally via Kies... I am in the UK though.

I de-branded an o2 UK phone which I think was on KE2 before, and wouldn't update any higher.
 
Ive just updated to KF2. I used the frankinstein firmware because it is XEU (I think that is generic UK). Anyway seems to be working ok so far.
 
thanks :) ive decided to upgrade to KF2 instead of KF4 but im still not sure about the CSC part..

on the xda page, i read that the frankenstein firmware will wipe ur data.. is this true?? coz there's a KF2 frankenstein package with XEU CSC .. but i'd rather i didnt have to do a complete backup n stuff.. if it completely wipes all data.. lol

is there an original KF2 firmware for XEU? or is the generic (Poland) one alright? or should i wait, i here there are new updates on the way.

i just want to flash one of the newest firmware on my phone without losing any data, or have any change in how my phone looks/works.. thanks!
 
The KF2 frankenstein firmware did not wipe any data. I think the data wipe only refers to the KF1 frankenstein. Not sure about the Poland CSC. The KF2 frankenstein is working fine for me.
 
thanks! thats probably the best way to go then.. im not sure about the Poland CSC either,n although im sure it should be alright, im going with the frankenstein KF2.. i was not sure if the 'this will wipe all ur data' part was for every frankenstein package or just KF1. thanks again.. im downloading it now.. does this extract into 3 parts, PDA/PHONE/CSC, where i have to add all 3 separately in Odin? :)
 
I only added the PDA but looking at my phone info now I think I should have added them all because my baseband is still on KE4. I'll flash it now...

Hi community, just switched from Symbian to Android, so I've got to learn a lot.
I am a German living in China. This brought up some problems with my brand new Gal S2/9100. When I try to update it (kies) tells me it is not possible for this firmware. I also can even not register an account at Samsung with the telefon. It seems that this Shop sold me a "modified or cracked " Phone. Howeve,r I learnt here I can flash my phone.
As I am in China, most "up=load" servers are blocked, I cannot access them.
So I need urgently the help of you guys. Here my DATA:
PDA I9100XWKE7 : CSC I9100 XEU KD1
Build: Gingerbread XWKE7
But but but: I wonder if I could get an European CSC Package with the latest KF4?

I kindly ask the community to give me a chance to download all that stuff through a one time FTP connection from someone's PC. Just use Filezilla FTP server.
I could do it in the night in order not to disturb you. We have 6 hours time shift. So, my morning is your night.
Or any other server to download all the stuff including ODIN?

just installed the frankenstein KF2 package. one shortcut went missing on one of my home screens, lol.. but confirmed no apps were removed from the device.. thanks for all the help, guys.. hopefully i'll notice an improvement in battery life tmr, after tonight's charge..

@robbie, i think u'd want the KF2 firmware, its the newest, newer than KF4 :)

yes, right. i found someone (really nice guy) on the developers forum to upload all I need to a server, which I can access from here.
So I am done with that. However, tomorrow I will flash my phone and report again. As it is midnight here I have to go

first day of usage on KF2 after full night's charge, got the usual 12-13 hours before the first battery warning (15%) no noticeable improvement, im pretty disappointed. lol. hopefully 2.3.4 will bring on a much more noticeable improvement. im gonna try out the green power app until then
 
Ok so I have the KF2 firmware for flashing.

It came with three files:

Phone_I9100XXKF2.tar
PDA_I9100XXKF2.tar
CSC_I9100XEUD1.tar.

I am on Vodafone UK. So I think I should replace the CSC .tar file with this one that I found:

CSC_I9100VODKE2.tar

This CSC .tar is the same one I have already on the phone: thus I should have no issues with connectivity settings etc after flashing.

Is this correct?
 
No use the CSC_I9100XEUD1.tar one, it is generic UK so it will have your vodfone setting in there anyway. I had the 3UK CSC and I flashed the generic uk one and all my settings are working fine.
Or if you wanted to keep the vodfone one then just leave the CSC part and flash PDA and PHONE.
 
I got KE2 stock rooted firmware. What are the benefits of changing firmware to a custom ROM and to what? As you... I want the best :-) (but need to read lots lots lots more)
 
Each custom rom has its own different features. Most of them if not all are based on the samsung firmware so they are not to different from standard just tweaks here and there. I can recommend villain rom, I have been using it for a couple of weeks with no problems.
 
Hello Guys,
I live in South Africa and we hardly ever get updates here. However, I did notice that my PDA is: I9100XWKE7. Can I just flash PDA's I9100XWKI8 or I9100XWKI4 via odin? My other details are as follows:
Phone: I9100JCKE1
CSC: I9100JCKE1
