Question on rooting

I want to have my phone for as long as i can so please tell me whether should i root my android and what all to do after rooting (if it is recommended) to get the most life.

What phone do you have? Knowing this will allow us to tell you what is available for your phone once it's rooted. One thing to remember, longevity of a phone isn't just software but how long will the hardware last.

If your phone has good developer support, you would be able to get Android Versions that would not normally be available from the carrier. If you have an HTC phone, you may also get versions of Sense that would not normally be available.
