Question on Samsung Skyrocket

Hi I have Samsung Skyrocket and for the life of me I cannot figure how to tell if I have a voice message or just a missed call. I have called my phone from another phone and left a message then called and did not leave a message. Both showed up as missed message. Surely there is something either I need to activate which will let me know this. I previously had a Samsung Captivate and I always could tell the difference. I would appreciate any help.
