Question regarding new contract and transferring number

Hi I was wondering about starting a plan with Sprint though I have a couple questions.

I'm currently on my mother's family plan on AT&T (though my specific number has been out of contract for a while now) and I was looking to start a new plan on my own. I came across the Epic 4G (either that or the Samsung Galaxy S2) and planned to wait till the S2 came out. Long story short, my phone died a couple weeks ago and I've been phoneless since, so I have to make a move soon.

1) I'm currently in college about 200 miles away from home and wanted to go to a local Sprint store to make a new contract. However, I still WANT to keep the same number, so is it possible to move the number to Sprint (as they have a promotion right now that would result in a $125 credit if I switch the number). However, since the contract is in my mother's name, do I need her to physically be there when I sign the contract? How exactly does this transfer of number thing actually work?

2) Although I'm almost set on the Epic 4G, I might want to get the S2 when it comes out, since the return policy on phones is 30 days I believe (I might be wrong) can I return the Epic 4G assuming it is still within the return period and switch it for the S2 if it comes out in time?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

You might be able to do it if you go down to the Sprint store and have them get your mother on the line to verify all account info and give permission to Sprint to port your number over to them. Whatever you do though, DONT cancel your line with ATT. If you do then your number will be lost forever. Let Sprint port it over and when they do it the line on ATT's end will automatically be canceled.

Thanks but what about the 30 day return policy? Is it advisable that I sign up for a contract and get an Epic 4G now and then IF the SG2 comes in less than 30 days to just switch over to it instead? I've been phoneless for so long and I feel as if I'm desperate to sign a contract, the amount of self control on my part is staggering :(

Yes, as long as you swap before your 30 days are up there will be no problems. But there will be a $35 restocking fee for switching devices.

Alright thanks! Though I'm debating on whether going to a Best Buy or a authorized Sprint store to sign the contract, is there any major difference between the 2? If I sign at Best Buy, can I go to a Sprint store to resolve my billing issue or any other issues that I may end up having? Thanks so much for your reponse!

The big advantage of going to Best Buy is getting the rebate instantly instead of having to mail it in and wait. But either way you will have to deal with Sprint directly for any billing or warranty issues.
