Question regarding symbol on camera screen

There is a symbol that looks like a circle with the corners of a box around it while using the camera. Sometimes it's white and sometimes green. I've searched but haven't determined what this is. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure its telling you when the camera is focused or not. I played with it before when touching the screen and it moves the focal point. Goes from white back to green when its locked on.

It will also show a light bulb in the square when you point it at a light. When you move away it goes back green with the square. Still not exactly sure what it is.

I appreciate the responses. Still seems a little wierd where the symbol shows up on the screen. Also strange that this does not seem to be covered in any manuals.

It tells you when the camera is focusing. It turns white when the camera is trying to focus and green when it has completed focusing.
