Apps Question - Reprogramming Side Button

I have done some searching and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have extracted the system.img in a rom and digging through the file structure. I am fairly new to all this so bear with me.

I am trying to find the code that relates to the side button and its functions. I would like to play with this and modify it if possible and see what I can get it to do.

What side button are you referring to? You may want to ask this in the ROM dev section as well.

The ringer volume button. I didn't want to post in multiple threads being a new user but if you think I might get better replys there. I will do so. Currently I am still searching for the code in the system software that controls this button.
