Root Questions About CWM

I have two questions about koush's official CMW! I did not realizew they could be installed over each other so I installed HashCodes tweaked bootstrap that runs from BP tools. I learned afterward that you can install the one from Rom Manager and install the tweaked one over it. So can i install the original over the tweaked? Or does it not work that way?

My other question has to do with making backups using the new CWM... Koush said that his bootstrap allows you to backup to external or internal sd cards... does the tweaked not let you do that? because when I try to backup it says cannot mount /sdcard, (because I dont have an external sd card!

Thanks for any help,

This is complicated but I will try to explain as I understand things.

From here on out, the official CWM is Koush's, even if it's provided by HashCode. The one provided by ROM Manager is Koush's. The one provided by Hashcode now (either tweaked or not) is Koush's. The one on Hashcodes site, which is the tweaked one, is here, and is Koush's:

http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/android-downloads.html

It's version 5.0.2.6, and it's the same as the one from Within Rom Manager. So, you can apply the Tweaked over the regular (from Hash's site, above) and you can re-apply the latest from within ROM Manager, but it's the same tweaked one now.

Herein lies the problem. When CWM is invoked from BP tools at boot, it wants to store the backup on the external SD card, and it can't be seen from ROM Manager. When you invoke it from ROM Manager, it gets stored onto internal SD, and can't be seen from the BP tools boot invocation of CWM. This isn't yet fixed to my knowledge.

However I don't get your statement that it fails storing to /sdcard, because that's internal and always there. sdcard-ext is the removable card. Neall

Thanks for your quick response!

So let me get one thing sorted out first! I currently have ONLY the tweaked version installed. Can I install the Rom Manager version over that and not have a brick?

You have all you need. Once you press Bootstrap Recovery and it's successful, when you open Rom Manager it will say the latest version of CWM has been flashed.

How do I tell if rom manager recognizes it because it doesn't seem like it is...when I select backup current rom it says "you must have clockworkmod flashed"

Correct. It's the same version. You can install the tweaked version via the app, then again via Rom Manager. You may have to do this in order for Rom Manager to see CWM (and it seems you can't). I had the same problem, and that fixed it. Neall

I figured out that the backup was trying to mount the sd card so it could back it up, not save the backup to it... when I ran the backup from rom manager, it bypassed the backup of the sdcard so its all good now

Although I have a new problem, everytime I turn my phone on from being shut off it autoboots to cwm, to boot normally I have to wait for cwm to boot then select reboot system from there, it is not fatal but just annoying, thanks for the help
