Help Questions about streaming music in the car

Hi folks,

I just cancelled my Sirius subscription and have started streaming music in the car using either Pandora or IHeartRadio. Haven't picked a favorite yet, but have a question or two about getting everything to work the way I want it to.

I don't have a cradle for the phone, and have just been popping it into a cup holder to start. I have a 3.5mm running from the jack on the phone to the aux on the radio. Sounds great, but I'm trying to figure out how I can take a call using my Bluetooth speaker while I'm listening to the music. My car stereo is a basic AM/FM with CD. No nav or bluetooth built into the car at all. I have an ioGear solar bluetooth speakerphone thing stuck to the windshield that I use for hands free calling, and it generally works fine.

The other day I tried to dial a call from the bluetooth adapter while music was streaming, and when I hit the button on the BT speakerphone I started getting the music through the speakerphone instead of having the music stop and the phone start. Can this be done? Are there settings somewhere I need to adjust? Is the problem my cheapo BT speakerphone?

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. I'd like to have the music stop or pause when the phone function starts, and have it start again when the phone call is over. If I've left out any pertinent information please let me know.

Once you actually place the call on your phone there will be a options available to you, one of which is to select Bluetooth. If your Bluetooth is synced and turned on the phone will switch to your device and stop the music.

I thought this was exactly what I did, so I was scratching my head when I read your post. I tried it again on the way home tonight. Pandora did exactly as you described. When I activated the bluetooth speakerphone to make a call, Pandora paused the audio output and then started up again when I ended the call. Perfect.

Then I tried iHeartRadio...not the same. When I activated the BT speakerphone the music didn't stop. Music was coming out the BT speakerphone in addition to the voice dial prompts. I attempted a call anyway to see what would happen, and the music never stopped, and when I gave up and hung up the call the music just kept right on going. It would appear iHeartRadio is not BT aware. I must have only attempted this with iHeartRadio the first time I tried it.

Anyone know if a setting I might have missed? I actually preferred iHeart, but if I can't use the phone while it's playing that will be a deal breaker. I see a couple other apps I'll have to try out in the meantime.

I noticed that when I stream Pandora and Google Play I can see the tag info (song, artist, track..) However, with some apps like MixZing (which I really like) - no info is sent to the head unit. Seems odd..

Anyone else notice this?

Hmmm....no suggestions for iHeart. I tried Slacker Radio this morning and it also paused the music when I activated the bluetooth handsfree device. I just cannot find a way to get iHeartradio to do this. I've looked around on their support pages to no avail. I guess I'll email them is no one has any tips to offer.

I use a BT audio connection to stream various apps to my Subaru with Car Audio M. When the bt connects, it automatically starts my Subsonic app whether it was the last used or not. I am confounded. Any ideas?

When playing music through the headphone jack in the car, I use the car audio system as my speakers and the mic on the phone itself. There are actually a couple mics on the phone for both voice pickup and noise cancellation. You don't need to hold the phone up to your mouth, in the busines works just fine and calls work great. You can also turn up ti speaker volume as loud as you want and there won't be any noise issues. I am also pretty sure iheartradio gets paused for phone balls. Also no need for any extra hardware.
