Help Questions about the Android email app

Bataar

Lurker
I'm new to Android, just migrated over from Windows Phone and I have a couple of questions about the email app.

1. Is it possible to have separate email icons for each account? I have a Comcast, Hotmail and a work account and I'd like to have separate icons for each.

2. Currently, the icon shows the number of unread messages present. Is it possible to change this to only show new messages? On Windows Phone, it will show you how many new messages you have. You launch the app, see that you don't want to read them right then and exit the app. Now it will not show any new emails. Currently, on Android, I have to either open each one or mark them as read if I don't want it to show anything on the start screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. I'm not aware of any app that will put icons on the screen for individual accounts.

2. Sorry, but I don't know of a way to show only new, either. Everything I've ever seen shows unread.

Maybe someone else will chime in and prove me wrong.

Welcome!

probably the best you can do (again, not certain of this) is get separate notifications in the notification panel (the dropdown at the top of the screen); the thing is, and I haven't researched it to be honest, the only mail app I know of that does even that is Yahoo mail -- which is of no help to you...a solution, not exactly elegant, is a different email app for each account. that would at least segregate what your unread mail count is, for each account.

hope this is some help, RA

Actually Maildroid does let you put icons for individual accounts on the desktop (at least the paid version - I don't currently have the free one installed, so can't say whether that also includes this feature). I just tried it, and it showed separate unread counts on the two icons and each opened that account's inbox when tapped.

It had a choice of 3 icons you could use, but a decent launcher would let you choose your own icons anyway.

Don't think I can help with the second request though - only way I could think of would be to set all as read before leaving the app (which is going to take a couple of steps in any app).

Hi, it may be peculiar to HTC, but I can add a shortcut for each of my accounts to a home screen which takes me straight to the particular account and also shows new mail for each account.
