Help Questions for KFHD (2013 model) Owners

Del

Newbie
I recently got the Kindle Fire HD 2013 model (I think) and I'm quite pleased with it. I was wondering if those who have this particular model could tell me if it's worth rooting and flashing a stock android rom to it.

While I'd like to do this I've been shying away from the idea as it seems slightly more daunting that it was to "root n' rom" my Galaxy Nexus. All this talk of needing "fastboot" cables and things makes me wonder if I want to go to the trouble.

On top of that I'm not even sure where to start as there are a few different variations of the Fire HD tablet and I don't know the pitfalls should I attempt to root with a method designed fore a slightly different model.

I'm fairly certain mine is a 2013 model, it's the 16gb variant that doesn't have a camera. I assume to try and persuade folks to upgrade to the HDX which does have one.

Long story short I figured I might as well ask here for pointers from established Fire owners as to how I should approach this. How do I figure out the specific type of Fire I have? Which XDA forum topics can I trust to work with my tablet? And before all of that, is it even worth it to go to the trouble. I should think the answer to that would be yes, and that I'm just getting a bit paranoid (Paranoid Android would be awesome on this tablet :D) but I can't be sure, and before I try something stupid and break my new toy I thought it best to ask those who know more about it than I.

Any and all help/advice on the matter is greatly appreciated!

PS: I apologize for the TLDR inducing wall of text.

The 2013 model doesn't have a custom recovery or any ROMs at all so be very careful in trying to flash something that's not for this model lol. On another note its rootable and there's a post on a ROM in realllyyy beta beta phase. Just go to XDA and search for it in the kindle fire HD 7 Android development forum. Good luck!
