Help Questions from an android n00b

Hi all,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, and am fairly new to Android.

I want to know what is the "best" way to "exit"/get out of applications that I am finished with.

I understand that it's not advisable to "kill" the app/task as this can be a waste on resources/battery power when re-launching. My question centres around the home vs back key for exiting apps.

I understand the difference (from googling), and that using the home key effectively "minimizes" the app and it still appears in "active applications" page. My problem, coming from an iPhone background whcih gave me one button only to "exit"/get out of apps, is mashing the back key x number of times to exit the app feels cumbersome. It seems more intuitive to mash the home key to get back to the home page in order to do other stuff.

When using WhatsApp, if I use home to get out of the application, I have noticed that some messages are delayed when being delivered. They often appear when I unlock my phone. Doesn't happen every time, but intermittently.

I've googled sync settings etc and all is fine there.

My question is what is the official way of exiting an app? Mash the back button? Home key? Is using the home key exclusively OK?

You can back out of most apps and effectively "close" them but I never bother doing that, I just move straight to the next app or hit home and my phone runs fine. Android will stop apps on its own to free up memory when needed :thumbsupdroid:

Excellent, that's what I thought. Do you have any ideas re: the WhatsApp delayed messages thing? It seems sometimes when I press home any new messages I receive from my contacts are delayed.

Hey all,

Anyone out there have any further ideas why WhatsApp sometimes delays the delivery of messages, especially if I minimize the app via the home key?

I would understand it better if it occurred with the back button -- but the home button shouldn't cause an issue. I have no clue, my best bet is for you to probably post a question on Whatsapp using Google Play. Good luck!
