[QUESTIONS] Switching From Verizon to T-Mobile Prepaid

Hi all,

So I just received my new, shiny Nexus 4 and am going to start using T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan (the web exclusive one). I'm coming from Verizon, and have got some questions regarding number porting and what happens to accounts.

So here's my situation. I want to port a number from my plan on Verizon to T-Mobile, but then not have the Verizon account terminated, and change its number. In other words, I want to keep the Verizon account, but have the number that's currently on it ported over to T-Mobile.

Anyone know if this is doable?

i dont think so i think once you port a number out that account is closed i hope im wrong but this is what i think i know
 
I have the same question too. I plan to port my number I have since 1981 to my new T-mobile in the next few months.

I wonder if Sprint will let me have another number so I can keep is somewhat alive until I sell my prize SERO plan.
 
Once you port a number that account gets closed.

If you want to keep that number you need to call Verizon and see if you can get around that and let them know what you want to do. I don't see it being possible though.
 
If you want to do this your best bet would be to add a line to your Verizon account and then port your main number to T-Mobile. That way you will still have a line open with Verizon on that account but a different number than your main one. As someone said above, if you just port out that number and it's the only one on that account, the entire account is canceled.
 
I did a simple search and I just have to pay $100 since I have 5 months left b4 getting out.

Right now my monthly fee is $56 with tax. I plan to get the T-mobile $30 plan. I can get it for $28.

I think I come out ahead n shall do it now? I fail my high school math.

Well, the math is this: given your numbers, your monthly saving with T-mobile is $28. That means you would make up your $100 termination fee in a little more than 3 and a half months. Since you come out even in roughly 3.5 months as opposed to having to pay 5 months in your contract, yes, you come out ahead, strictly numerically speaking.

I see! Maybe I do the math wrong thinking of doing all 6 months till my contract run out.
