Help Quick question

Before I start, I might be on the wrong forum asking this question, as it might be more about cell phones in general than androids specifically. I am thinking about getting a android phone, but I don't need any data plan, or any connection to someone like Verizon, because I already have a phone, I just want it to be like and IPod is, if you are familiar with it, basically an IPhone without any of the "phone". Would this be possibly by just buying it off someone, or off of Craigslist? And if anyone could help in a way that makes sense to someone with no knowledge of any of this, that would help a lot.
Thanks, Bierg

Yeah, you can use any device without a working connection of any kind, you don't have to have data or WI-FI enabled, utilizing on-device storage for whatever you desire.
The WI-FI will work independently of a network data connection if need be,nothing special is required for this.

As for buying off craigslist,I can't urge you strongly enough to avoid like the plague, you're likely buying someone elses problems,or worse,a stolen device that's blacklisted, which will never be available for network data activation, should you choose to do so in the future.

You can buy a device from anywhere & just use as a WI-FI device, sans data/phone plan.

Could you give us a more detailed summary of what you want to do with this potential smartphone purchase? You refer to Apple's iPod, which is fundamentally just a media player, and that you don't want any mobile phone capability, but are you also interested in being able to do things like take photos, access your email, and text with family/friends?

Generally any smartphone is pretty limited without some kind of online access, either WiFi supplied by a home network or cellular (mobile data) supplied by a carrier. Even if you don't want to use your smartphone to check your mail or browse the Internet, and just want it to use to listen to music and maybe watch an occasional video at some point you need to be able to transfer those music files and videos to your smartphone. Without a data plan, you will need to use a WiFi connection. Do you have some kind of home network in place? Do you have a computer or laptop?

Thanks for the reply. I do have a wifi connection and a computer, so that shouldn't be a problem. But what I want out of the phone would just be to be able to play games and use the phone without cell service. Would that be possible it I just buy one at something like the Verizon store and ask to not have a plan, or if I buy it off of something like eBay?
Thanks, Bierg
