Help Quick Question

Hey, so i bought a galaxy I7500 yesterday, and it is running 1.5. I am in canada and the phone is unlocked (i am using it with WIND mobile) and am wondering if there is an official update to different version of android ( i had the magic before and it was all just done for me). Also does anyone know if the phone will relock, all the manuals are not in english so im not sure the original carrier of the device. (the samsung website only seems to list the L version of this phone) if anyone can help me out its greatly appreciated.

Sorry, there are no official updates beyond 1.5. However, if you look in the "All things root" sub-forum, you'll find drakaz custom recovery and Galaxo 1.6.3.3 (built on 1.6). While you'll need the Android SDK in order to flash them (need fastboot and ADB for various things) they're a world of difference compared to the stock 1.5 roms out there.

If you're still in your grace period or something similar (not sure if they have it over there), I would return it for another Android phone. Samsung support is atrocious and they've basically binned the phone after it was out for 2 months...

Loads of bugs are still unfixed and it's been something like 10 months after the phone has been launched

Galaxo 1.6.3.3 makes this phone very nice.

It can't really go wrong. However, before doing that, I would highly suggest finding the firmware you currently use somewhere on internet (you can find its name somewhere in the settings, in "About phone" or something similar.)

With the original firmware, you can always go back to what you have right now (and no one could ever tell you changed your firmware, so you still have the warranty ).

It wont do any damage to the unlocked portion of the phone (i put in that code and all the locks said OFF) Just wouldnt want it to relock!

I can't help you with that, sorry. My phone has always been locked, so I have no idea whether or not yours will relock. Maybe someone else knows?
