Quick questions about android

Hi everyone.

1. When i try to type chinese, some characters show up fine and some show as squares.like this word: 不

Why is that?

Tried all kinds of IME input apps like Google IME, Baidu, Sogou (same problem with those few words)

Is there a language pack or custom rom I can install to fix this?

Thank you very much.

Samsung Galaxy Mini SGH-T499

1) The app would be saved on your phone. Once it's on your phone, you can go into Applications Manager to move it into the SD card (Do you know how?).

2) What kind of phone do you have? Is the Chinese language an application or is it embedded into the phone? I know that if YOU have Chinese installed on your phone and you send me a message, I get those squares. But if it's an App, if might need to be upgraded in order to display the character you're trying to type.

3) I'm sorry, but this, again, depends on the phone and the version of Android you're running. But I'll try and point you in the right direction:

On an Galaxy S 2 (SGH-i9100) running 4.0.3, it is located :

Applications > Settings > Display > Touchkey light duration

Did I help?

It's not just one particular app, you're finding this in any app? Is this a phone that was supplied by your carrier? It may have a lobotomised or localised ROM that lacks proper support for Chinese. As a rule, Android supports Chinese properly and is AFAIK complete. All the Android devices where I am, certainly have complete support for Chinese.

Yea thats what I'm guessing too. The phone is from Mobilicity (Canada). I'm just wondering now if there is a language pack I could install or a custom rom even that has native chinese support...(need it for messaging as some of my contacts only understand chinese ...)

based on what was said above, i'm guessing any AOSP-based ROM would have full chinese support. Along those lines, most developers probably build it in too.

Thanks for the reply GuitarG20. Can you provide a link or guide me in the right direction please. I'm new to all this :(

@ mikedt Yes, i tried a lot of IME input apps: Google, Baidu, Sogou and they all have the same problem. Characters like 不, 女 etc display squares.

Most characters show up fine though. And funny thing is, although it shows up as squares on my phone, the receiver of the text message can view it properly lol...

So i type out squares and the receiver of the text message (if their phone can read chinese) sees it properly xD.
