Quick Questions, Fast Answers: Motorola Droid Related Questions

Oh, my gosh. This is so confusing.

So, since I've got the select plan, I get unlimited messaging and if I want to use data such as E-Mail, IM, Web, etc, I will have to get the Smart Phone plan?

To get any smartphone with Verizon, you must have the minimum of the $29.99 data plan, which gives you unlimited web/email. If you want texting, the previous posters are correct: The Select plan provides for unlimited text/picture messages to any carrier, not just Verizon. IM (Google Talk, AIM, etc.) counts against your text messages, so with the Select plan, you are golden. If your email needs include Exchange server-based email (work), you will need the $44.99 plan also described earlier.

Hope this helps!

NO YOU DONT!!!

the $29.99 data plan includes ALL internet:
* browsing
* email (gmail, pop, imap, EXCHANGE)
* all IM (AIM, google talk, yahoo, facebook, ...)
* all the apps you may install that need a data connection (weather, news, ...)

Both AT&T and verizon have the same confusing rate plans. the more expensive one is for corp account.

I have the Select Plan. 1350 minutes. Unlimited Text.. 99 bucks.

In addition I have the Data Plan: 29.99

My Data Plan DOES NOT include any texting..

If I dump my texting (which is a part of my "Select" plan), my bill would be reduced by $20 a month. Select plan would go down to 79 bucks.

This information I provide above was relayed to me by a Verizon rep, just yesterday..

Am I reading here that some are saying the data plan covers "texting." ??

That is not my experience.

Now for my question:

I'm a new member and I have a quick question about the voice and data plans for the Motorola Droid. I wanted to get the Select Plan w/ 450 minutes (39.99) and add on the Smart phone plan with Unlimited Data Usage (44.99). If I get the Unlimited Data Usage Plan, will I be covered for unlimited text messaging? I'm a heavy texter and I don't think I will survive with Verizon's 5,000 Text Messaging Add-On Plan, either. If someone could please clear this up for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok... You only need a 44.99 data plan if you're using an enterprise server for email through your employer. Otherwise, a select plan with 450mins is 59.99 a month, that includes unlim text, pix and flix. for 29.99 on top of that you get unlimited data. data=internet and email. I work for Verizon so if anyone has any questions let me know.

data plan does not cover texts.

New Question. When you are e-mailing something (pic, ringtone, etc) from the source, not from the e-mail program, is there a way to access your e-mail contacts so you don't have to have the address memorized and be forced to type it in the address bar??

Not sure if this was cleared up by anybody else, but, if you're using the select plan, you don't need to add a texting plan. It's included with the select plan. And for data (unless you need corporate e-mails via an Exchange server), you'll be fine with the $29.99 plan. That includes unlimited browsing and e-mail.

I might blow this thread up. :D I really appreciate the noobie thread though, this will help me get familiar with my phone alot quicker. Fwiw......I am totally new to smart phones, so I have alot of questions.

The AC charger cord has a USB cable end.......can I safely hook my phone to my computer? I assume I can add music and wallpaper to my phone like this, as well as remove pictures and video from my phone this way?

Just start typing in the contact name or email address and android will bring up a suggestion list after about 3 letters. It works pretty well.

call me an idiot but this type thread is way too confusing...i prefer the smaller "problem specific" threads. the problems get too intertwined with each other and are hard to follow.

I have an older America's choice VZ plan that has web access for $5.00 a month but the data takes away from my 1400 minutes. I also have unlimited text, pics for $30 a month for 5 phones. I want a droid. If I buy a droid off ebay and just activate will my old web access work?

No, because the Droid is a SmartPhone that requires the 29.99 Data Plan.

does anyone know how to change the screen on the motorola droid where is says this phone belongs to. How do i get my name in there????

No, absurdly enough, the unlimited data plan does NOT include texting.

I have the 1400 minute plan shared on 2 lines with the data plan that you are required to get with the droid. My other line is an Env3 the plan has unlimited email, web AND texting included

The Unlimited plan covers everything (text, talk, and data) but because you have a smartphone you will still have to get that package as well. The regular data is for regular phones not the smart phones. That is what they told me at Verizon when I got my phone. I hope this helps.

I've been meaning to do this for a while but I've been really busy lately. Ok, a few months ago, my Youtube app just completely stopped working. I'll choose the app and then it goes to my Youtube login home screen; but here's where the problem is. At the top right, my youtube login flickers on and off with the little loading circle every 2 seconds. When it does this, my phone almost completely freezes. I can't press videos, the home screen, or the back button at all and the only time I can press them (Not including the videos) is the window of time my username pops back up in the top right. Nothing seems to work and I don't want to lose my most used app on my Droid :(.

Also, can someone tell me how to download wallpapers directly to the phone via computer? I'm not used to this kind of stuff lol.

First, with the question on the youtube problem....now I am looking and thinking about this on a computer aspect....But sounds like your youtube account might have been hacked. Just my thoughts.....go into your youtube through the computer and change your password....see if that helps. Only thing I can think of. Hope this helps.

Second, the question on wallpapers....when you hook your phone to your computer it brings up files. look for the file name "backgrounds" that is where all your wallpapers go. Then it is just like transferring files on the computer from one file to another. Drag and drop what you want into that folder. I hope this helps...if you need a video they are some good ones on youtube about this and many other subjects about the droid.
