How do i get quick pic to recognise the downloads folder on the SD card.

For example saved a few pictures from the brower, but quick pic didn't find them. had to unhide the gallery and get them from there. even though it saved on the SD card and quickpic is set to scan entire sd card...

Using a file manager like Astro or ES File Explorer, look in the downloads folder for a file named ".nomedia" and delete it. Android will then be able to scan the downloads folder.

Would the OP then need to unmount and remount the SD card to force android to re-scan it?

That's a good question to which i don't have an answer. If deleting the file doesn't force a rescan, then probably.

I remember back in gingerbread that I would have to unmount and remount the SD card when I added/removed a nomedia file, was just curious if recent android versions had changed that. Oh well, it doesn't hurt anything to unmount and remount, or reboot. Just need to remember that an app that relies on data from the SD card may hiccup if you unmount and remount.

Considering that JB virtualizes the system and user volumes now, i would think it could adjust dynamically. I suppose I could test that theory.

Hmm.. just tested and it looks like Android (4.1.1. at least) has done away with the need to unmount/remount when adding or removing a .nomedia file.

EDIT: I was required to go into Settings > Apps and kill the Gallery to get it to rescan.. but at least I didn't have to unmount/remount the SD card.

There is also an option in quick pic to tell it which folders to scan. I forget where since I stopped using it note that the gallery in 4.2 is really nice.

Thanks I'll give this a bash seems straight forward enough.

Edit: this appears to have worked quick pic recognised a new download picture straight away without the need to do anything after deleting .nomedia

Many thanks to both on the thread that investigated.

My quick pic is set to scan the entire sd card but only the gallery with its awful set up. Reads the download folder

It looks like my work here is done ...
