Hey....
So i was wondering what exactly is upgrading and what privileges do you get when doing so??
I have a galaxy mini gt5570 Froyo 2.2.1
All i know about upgrading is that theres levels .. Like firstly froyo then ice cream sandwich then gingerbread and lastly theres jelly beans ... Right?? Coz im not suremyself >_<"
So... Umm.. Is it easy to upgrade? And how far can my froyo upgrade to? And lastly how can i upgrade?
Im sorry my quistion are always so newbieish ..but I would realy like to know about upgrading
thanks in advance

Upgrading just steps up to a newer version of the OS. It adds features and/or functionality, but not privileges.

Actually, it's Froyo 2.2 > Gingerbread 2.3 > Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 > Jelly Bean 4.1. There was also Honeycomb 3.0 but that's for tablets only.

To see if an official update is available for your phone, do:
Settings > About phone > Software updates.

thanks alot for the fast reply...
So there wouldnt be any disadvantages incase i upgrade?
I tried the steps but theres no option as software updates in "about phone" is there another way?
When i search in google "upgrading froyo 2.2 to gingerbread" for example theres lots of ways .. Is it for certain phones or can anyone with froyo do it and work?
Thx again

If there's no update available in 'Software updates' then no official update has been released for your phone. Your only option is to root the phone and install a custom version of Gingerbread (aka ROM) made specifically for your exact model phone. Offhand, I don't know if one is available or not.

Custom ROMs vary in terms of quality, stability, and features. Rooting will void your warranty.

Default n00b warning:
For regular users there's just not many reasons to root anymore. Android and hardware have come a long way. I haven't bothered to root my daily driver in a long time and usually recommend against it. Ask yourself what you need to do that actually requires root or if you just want to play with the phone. For most users it's probably the latter.

If you decide you really do need/want to root, look in the 'All Things Root' section of your phone's subforum. Plenty of info is available. Also, Google search is your friend. Do a LOT of reading. Make sure you understand why you're doing it, the exact steps required and all the terminology, and have a recovery plan and backups in case things go bad. Nobody likes to bail out a n00b just because he simply failed to do his homework first.

Ohhh if its including rooting then ill just forget about it :/ i posted an earlier post asking about rooting ... Im afraid of ending up with a bricked phone .. My ultimit reason for rooting would be thet internal low storage which is a whole another problem ..... Ill just figure something out..
But realy thank you you were very helpful :)

i don't know if it has kies or not, but if the phone is upgradeable then kies might be the answer, downloadit to the computer and check it out.....
