Quoted code gets formatted as a list

I've noticed that when I quote a piece of code into a reply, it gets pasted in as a list. So I have to undo this for each line. It's a bit of a pain.
Any idea why this happens? This was also the case for the old website.

I think that whatever is responsible for inserting quotes interprets the code with line numbers as a list, maybe.
Could be completely off though, or doing something stupid.
Let me know either way.

Is the presence of line numbers causing the quoted text to be interpreted as a list?
