R C anyone?

Painting them is easy, painting them good is harder. Just remember since you're painting the inside you have to paint backwards, like on Bumblebee, the first thign I painted was the Autobot logo and then the black stripe. Lastly I painted the yellow.

So, whatever would be your last thing to paint normally, is your first. You can paint the outside, but then the paint will scuff. Also when you do paint the inside you get a really glossy finish because of the lexan. You can make it matte by hitting the outside with flat clearcoat.

I liked my rustler a lot, but it drove far too different than my Stampede. Closer to my Slash. I'm much happier with 2 Slashes.

I have been looking at the rally car Traxxes has. I've wanted an electric 4Tec for a while. And hope this new thing is a good replacement. It does look pretty sweet. Traxxas - Rally (#7407) - Overview | traxxas.com

When I get some money saved (after I get my Nexus 4) I'm hoping to upgrade one of my Slashes to a 4-wheel drive. I originally wanted a Revo but couldn't afford it. Was always bummed the Slash was only 2 wheel drive.

Looking at the Rally on Tower Hobbies, they're running $439 because of the Velineon and controller. I may buy all the parts and build my own with a brushed motor and ESC. I have an extra receiver and controller.

That is sweet looking. I see that it's 4wd. I settled for 2wd on my Slash.
I wish now I had went ahead and bought the the 4wd model. I've read that it corners so much better. I bet the Rally rocks.
I was looking at the E-Revo Traxxas - E-Revo Brushless (#5608) - Overview | traxxas.com
With the larger motor and 4wd it should be impressive. However, it's pricey and takes two li-pos to top out. It's on my wish list... but so are so may goodies. :)

My uncle flies RC planes. Mostly made of balsa wood, with both gas and electric motors. Unfortunately, he's getting old enough where he can't live on his own and was planning to get rid of (or more likely sell) his massive plane collection. I wish I could take in all of them, but I asked him to hold on to 2 or 3 of his favorites (at least 1 gas and 1 electric) and I would keep them and try to learn to fly. I should be able to pick them up when I go north for Thanksgiving. I just need to find a spot to put them. :p

He had about 20 planes. Most of them have 5-6' wingspans. All assembled by hand. Not those kits you slap together in 20 minutes they now sell.

My brother-in-law got into plane building/flying a few years ago. He was building them out of some kind of corrugated plastic signboard stock. His planes were very cool but his flying skills lacked some. I watched him crash a couple of his projects lol. Flying is much more difficult than driving a car or truck... even at sixty mph. I can't blame you for wanting some of your grandfather's planes. It would be fun to fly them and a great way to remember him always by sharing his love for the sport/hobby. I'd want to start out flying/crashing some cheap snap togethers before I attempted flying some of his treasures. If you have the opportunity, snap some pics of his work... I'd love to have a look.

I have an xtm stadium truck, it's an online brand from a store in California. It's badass for a non name brand, not like those cheap Chinese ones that break and you can't find parts for.

It fits most associated parts, and I can order them online from the cali hobby shop, took like 3 days in the mail to Michigan. It does about 50mph. My mom's bf has a T-Maxx that he sent the engine in to be upgraded to the 2.5 its crazy fast can't even stay on the ground. He also has an 1/8 ofna buggy. Using the 2.5ghz radio so he can control everything with one radio. Pretty sweet

They are all fun. I'm addicted. I took my slash out to the bike park this afternoon. It's a nice wooded park with bike trials. I was there a few weeks ago and had a blast doing some of the jumps etc. Today wasn't so good. The park is full of leaves and made racing near impossible. It's time to find a better place to play.

There is a park and boat launch next to large bridge, some guys built a nice track under the bridge. I haven't been down there for a while.

We also have a skate park a few blocks from my house, haven't taken the trucks up there but need to do that.

It's really not too hard to paint. Just go buy spray lexan paint, and mask off what you don't want to paint or if you want to do it a different color. Just be careful when you peel the tape off, the first time I did it I accidentally started to peel paint odd with it

I've been told of a RC dirt track in a park a few miles from here. I'll have to check it out. A skate park would have to be fun. I will have to see if there is one in town.

I'll let my son try a body before I mess one up lol. I well remember painting models in my childhood... not a pretty sight. Spray paint might make it easier. Painting when I was a kid was all done with little bottles of paint and a little brush.

That was just way far out! Thanks for sharing. I can't believe that has such a low stall speed. My brother-in-laws planes had to come in pretty hot or they would fall out of the sky. I'm impressed with your skill level as well. Good show!

Thanks!

A whole bunch I would guess, I like the part of upside down with the shaft on the ground, pretty wild!!!

The same with me. Just blew me away. I can't get that close to anything without breaking something. Example A: I spent last night replacing the bulkhead in my slash. It was so nice Sunday that I had to go out and find a curb that had no flex. I just barely clipped it but the bulkhead broke as well as the front tie bar. That's what happens when I get close to something with my RC stuff.

With my boat I haven't had any problem really because I stay away from stuff. I know a few that hit the dock and it pretty much totals out the boat. I have flipped a bunch of times and only one time I got water in engine and bent the connecting rod, after you get all the water out and get running again it was only bent a couple millimeters and wouldn't run right at all, is an easy fix though, don't have to take engine out or split block. Just use a straight edge and pliers been running great for 2 years now and the dino at their shop says all is good.

That's great. I don't know if I'd be any better with a boat. I have extreme difficulty with depth perception. I think I'm in the clear when I'm not at a distance. My son laughs at me. He told me a couple of weeks ago "if you can't play nice with your toys, I will have to take them away from you"... what a hoot! It's ok though... I enjoy working on my car. The pieces I've broke are pretty much "sacrificial" parts. They give up long before anything important breaks. I like that idea and I don't mind a minute fixing the car. The before mentioned pieces cost me $10.73 and some time. That's part of the hobby IMO and I'm loving it. I need better tools and I need better lighting to work on the thing. That's the kind of stuff that's on my xmas list.

I'd really enjoy trying to build my own car. I like the idea of going fast so I'd like to bring up a rod from the ground. They have great parts and ideas on the net as well as at the hobby shops. I just might have to try something in the future.

I'm going to be doing this with a Traxxas Rally. I don't really want the brushless motor and ESC, with my kids (6 and 7 years old) the brushed slow motor is fine for me. I enjoy the tinkering as well.

I'm in love with brushless and li-po :) My kids have kids so speed is no matter. I do think it's great that it's something you can do with your kids though... that's important. ...real important.

Just looking at that diagram, that rally chassis looks a great deal like the Traxxas slash.

They're very closely related. A Rally is a low center of gravity 4x4 Slash.

Ah... makes sense. The Slash is a bit prone to roll overs due to a high center of gravity. The worst problem is the body catching air causing it to become airborne at around 50 mph. I can see an improvement in both areas would be nice.

Yeah lacking depth perception is a bad thing with RC. But your work it out your way and that's how it all works great. In the beginning I just had a problem with the reverse when is coming at you every things backwards. it's all fun though. Lighting in tools are definitely a must. When they say there's an app for that I have a tool for that. Friends in the neighborhood always come to me to borrow tools they don't have it cause I have probably it. Yeah it's fun to build stuff from the ground up this way you know all about it.

My father collected and repaired antique clocks most of my life. He had a desk/work light that had an adjustable articulating arm/stand. The light itself was a florescent ring that had a magnifying lens in the center. I've seen similar models on the net but none have the field of view that his light had. The lens had to be six-eight inches in diameter. It was an outstanding light. That is what I definitely want.

As for tools... I have accumulated a lot of tools through the years as most men will that enjoy working with their hands. I don't have the small screwdriver like sockets and allens etc that would make working on my slash so much easier and enjoyable.
Being as I have zero small profile tools.... a kit of some sort will work well for me.

A couple of things worth mentioning so I brought this thread back to life. Firstly, Santa was good to me and I got a 4wd E-Revo. It takes two li-po batteries and so far I'm just running 4s. I can run it on 4,5, or 6s. It's way fast and fun on 4s. It sounds like 5s might be the sweet spot and 6s just plain crazy fast.

My buddy just bought a Traxxas X0-1. This is strictly a racer. We took it out today and made a few test runs. 93mhp was our best run. It is advertised to do 100+ out of the box. We fell just a bit short of that.... but not bad at all for a first run. He took it home to do some fine tuning and tweaking. We'll see this weekend :)
It two runs on two 3s li-po batteries. His ambition is to stick some 4s batteries in it and change out the gearing and push it out to 130mph. I'm here to tell you that 93 is just crazy fast. ... and fun.

I had the Tamiya Sand Scorcher when I was in high school. The original, not the 30th anniversary kit. Loved that 2ch electric, but ending up selling it to a friend my senior year cause I needed Christmas money.

I had a E-Revo until about 3:30 today lol. I was hopping back and forth across a sidewalk in the park today and the rear skid plate caught on the sidewalk. It took out the back bulkhead and two A arms... upper passenger and lower driver side. The worst part is it snapped off the rear end of the chassis in the process of the rear end flying off. I went and got all of the pieces for what is essentially a total rebuild tonight. I will have plenty to do for a while.
