r icon?

hi all,my htc dis s has a r small r icon just above the 5 bars,i am i in ireland from the uk and am using my dads wifi and have made sure the data romming is turned of and just using wifi but this r icon makes me think that im romming as cannot find meaning of it.please help as my dad is stressing me out saying ill run up hundreds of pounds yikes many thanks.nick

I think it will show the signal strength and that you are roaming even though you aren't using the connection. I know my retired devices (no longer connected to a carrier) still show signal strength.

If you want to make sure, you can put the phone into airplane mode and manually turn on wifi.

Yeah, if you have data roaming off (and I normally turn mobile data off for good measure) it won't be using data. But it is still roaming for voice and text. You get the R when you make any type of connection to a network other than your home one, not just for data use.
