Does anyone know what time the R2D2 Droid will be out?
It is supposed to be out today online only, but we don't know what time.
 
the device? weve all known about this for quite some time unless you men has anyone seen it in person then just the unboxing vid on droiddog.
 
I live in Arizona and the R2D2 phone is available online right now. Does anyone know how many they are going to produce since it is a limited edition?
 
I live in Ga. It is online now!
Go wo verizonwireless.com and type r2d2 in the search.
Then go through the motions.
It will change your phone to droid incredible, but you can change it back.
At one point I read that only 50,000 will be sold.
Can anyone verify any truth to this?
 
ok, maybe I'm missing something here, besides the boot up animation and a few sounds..... (all of which I can put on my D2 along with a r2d2 skinit) what's the point of this version?

looks and sounds aside.... is there anything the R2D2 can do that a normal D2 can not?
 
It has a few special apps, a few live wallpapers and a few regular wall papers (all the wallpapers leaked and can be put on your D2)

It also has a back that looks really cool if you are a star wars fan...unless you want a girlfriend.

I mean, the whole idea of the R2D2 droid sounds a bit gimmicky.... it's all I'm saying. Personally, I like that I have my theme, icons, sounds, all based off the University I graduated..... of course, if I want, I can make it around my favorite NFL team, or hockey team, or MLB, or yes, even starwars if I wanted, with r2d2 sounds and pictures..... with the R2D2, it seems you limit yourself to JUST Starwars in that regard.

what are the special apps you talked about.... are they not available for the regular D2?
 
I'm sure the apps will leak now that the phone is in the wild but they are nothing special. Star wars trivia, a fake binoculars app, and I think there are a few others. The only thing this phone is good for is collectors IMO. I'm sure some third party company will make a snap on R2 D2 back for the current phone for the people who want to look extra cool....

Just a side note...I am a Star Wars fan, and I still think anyone would look stupid with this up to their ear.

Agreed. I like Star Wars not a huge fan though. I don't need a R2D2 phone. This is for the die hard fans I assume:)

I'm surprised at how potentially fragmented could the original D2 concept become.
 
I ordered one. I don't want a girlfriend so I'm good. The only way that thing could be any cuter would be if it were pink. I am on the fence about whether I will activate it or sell it to a Star Wars fan.

It should be here Saturday since 2nd day shipping is free.
 
well, to each their own I guess... I like starwars, but not that much.... The only thing I could compare it to, for me, I guess, is a college style phone... But even though my phone has a very apparent theme going on, to buy it specifically set up for that theme seems limiting...
 
The best outcome would be if it were just a shell for my Droid 1. I don't care about the little apps, I just think the outside of it is cute. If they really did only make a few of them, I'll probably sell it. Otherwise, I have a nice phone to use in the event my D1 goes tango uniform and they give me terrible replacements.
 
Got it this morning. Only one store in the city had 100 of them. I showed up 10 minutes before opening and was second in line. It comes with lots of goodies that the regular Droid 2 doesn't according to the Verizon rep. A dock, two chargers, headphones and of course pre-installed Flash and lots of Star Wars goodies. Coolest of which is the Rebel Binocular app that shows you AT-ATs attacking Echo Base in Hoth, with explosions and all. Needless to say I like the phone. I am hesitating to root it just because I don't want to screw it up.

On an exclusivity note, only 10 stores nationwide got 100 phones to sell today according to the guy at the store. That is (duh) only 1000 people that will get this phone today. Also can be ordered online, but info on how many units are available is not being released. The rep also said, once they are gone, they are gone.
 
Just skin it, load boot anim, sounds and you are on the cheap.
OR flip it when it's out of stock, on EBay and make a nice buck :)
Not that I condone that...
 
Just got mne. Have not gone through the phone yet in detail, but looks great! And talk about a bunch of extra crap they gave me. 2 R2D2 cookies, a poster, a balloon (for my daughter) and even a lightsaber!
