I am not saying that there is no problem with RF on the S3. I might be lucking at my office location and where I travel as my radio RF is really good. Can not judge at home due to having a AT&T MicroCell but elsewhere it is as good as my S2 or iPhone 4S.

I do not understand why Samsung can get MORE antenna in devices that are this size! There is no excuse

I am starting to see quite a few complaints with reception between these forums and various other Android forums. As much as I would like to stick my head into the sand and say na..na..na and act as if I am not concerned, I can't.

How quickly will you return your Galaxy S3 IF you discover the WiFi and or 3G & 4G radios are poor?

My wifi works better on my s3 then it did on my Evo lte. Just an FYI.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and to Android. I've had the S3 for a little over a week now and have noticed that the reception, while not horrible, is not as good as my old iPhone 4. I was at a store that I frequently go to and my S3 could not hold onto a signal and kept losing reception. When it did hang onto a bar (about -109 to -115 dbm), I was unable to make/receive calls or text. However, my iPhone 4, which gets about -97 to -109 dbm in that same area, can send messages and make calls without any problems. I'm kind of torn since I really like the S3 and is definitely a better device overall compared to my iPhone. However, I am concerned about its reliability as a "phone." Has anyone here considered getting rid of it because of its somewhat inferior reception?

I do not know, brg29, a thousand apologies if I am wrong (happens a lot), but this post has all the characteristics of a bait post:

1. It seems you may like the iPhone a tad more
2. Presume the SG3 has "inferior" reception as standard, rather than first wondering/asking if your SG3 instead (the bait).
3. Suggest liking the SG3 better, but that would be the set-up for the bait
4. Most others I have read report opposite of your experience
5. This is your first post "brg29".


The key sticking point for a lot of folks is the reception, so this post comes across to me as a big wiggly worm on a hook

I would hope I am very wrong, but the post just seems to stand out. Please forgive me if not bait

When I had my Droid, I used Real Signal to measure the db strength. As I recall, below 80 was very good and above 100 was bad. Per previous posts, each manufacturer has a different method for showing signal strength by bars. The only reliable way is to measure -db's.

While this statement is true...almost all phones I have owned have been the same. The bars are usually pretty in line with the level of db's. I have never had full bars and had a -105 db and I have never had -80 with no bars.

So even though it's not a perfect indication it's fairly accurate.

Has anyone else found that they're not getting as good signal with their s3? With my Desire HD I had fu signal all the time. Now I'm lucky to be getting 2 bars with the s3.

Could this be a microsim issue?

ics reads signal different than previous os versions. The bars displayed are showing lte( at least for verizon version) rather than cdma which can give the false "less bars"

For me on AT&T in Ga the sg3 has by far the best reception of any phone I have had. I have had the last 3 iPhones, all got good reception, but on occasion they would show as being on edge. The x....well let's just say its reception is horribile, it would drop out all the time, granted a firmware update did help some, it still had issues. The sg3 has always had bars and has never dipped below 4g.(lte is not always available in my area)

My wife and I have the same service provider. But with the S3, I only get 1 bar at home while my wife's iPhone 4 gets 3 or 4 bars. Do I have a dud unit, or is this normal with the S3? I have the international version and I live in the Philippines. Please help.
