Root RAM Usage and ROMs...

Hey, I've flashed about 10 or so ROMs since I've had my EVO and I've noticed the ones I llike (VirusKingdom Sense 3.0) have about 100-110MB free memory in the RAM out of about 480MB taken. I noticed CyanogenMod 7 has exactly the opposite, 400MB free and 100MB taken.

So my question, what is the best ROM (Sense 3.0 preferred) that has a very good or decent RAM level, looking for about 200-300MB free. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about free ram on your evo. As long as it's snappy and lag free, don't worry about it.

Android OS is based off of linux which allocates ram differently than windows based OS. Linux will cache certain apps that you use often and keep them in memory for easy and fast opening. Plus it allows for true multitasking. As ram is used up, android will kill tasks to open up ram.
Sense roms always show less ram because it's an overlay over android, while AOSP is pure android, no overlay. AOSP roms will always have more ram available. ;)

To answer your question, I'm running the Supersonic3D rom with sense 3.5, and it's fine. Snappy, everything that I use works (no 4G, I don't use it). With this rom I usually have 250 MB free ram.
I also run the V6 turbocharger script. I think it helps. :D

Helped a lot actually thanks but a few questions, I'm new to ROMs and all that so can you explain what a turbocharger script is? Also I'm looking to stay away from OverClocking and also hoping to get a fairly decent battery life as well.

The supercharger script basically makes some changes to the way your phone handles memory to make it more efficient. It doesn't change your kernel speed at all.

What we're on the topic of kernels and battery life....

What ROM/Kernel are you currently using? Do you use SetCPU? If so, what scaling? How much battery life do you get with normal usage?

Well I change ROM's frequently, Most recents were PhillyPhinest VirusKingdom Supersonic3D, basically anything with Sense 3.0+, I like CyanogenMod 7 but it's too buggy. And I wouldn't dare mess with my CPU seeing as my phone is new I don't want to burn my processor through the phone.

You'll get into a boot loop before you do that. You can safely overclock your phone without burning it up. Remember it will drain your battery faster, just the way it is. Can't have your cake without paying for it. :D

SetCPU allows you to overclock or underclock you phone. However, just because you allow it to run at a faster setting, doesn't mean it is always up there. The scaling governor keeps the speed low and speeds it up only when it is needed. My phone actually hardly ever makes it to the max that I set it to, but I still enable it to get there if it needs the extra power to keep things snappy and responsive.

And you didnt mention anything about a kernel. Are you just running stock? Changing kernels helps many people achieve better battery life. I'd suggest more or aggressive freedom.
