Signed up just to say: same here... No idea what it is.

Maybe we should try to find a pattern. Anyone installed any app today?

I saw that someone else posted earlier today with same problem!

I installed an mp3 downloader app earlier from play store but have since removed it and performed various scans with different apps.

My wife just told me that her phone started doing this about 3 days ago. She hasn't installed anything recently. I have no idea about app updates.

This is weird. My phone also started doing the same thing today. Anyone else's phone start beeping before the messages started to appear?

This has been happening to me too! On my birthday no less. I was out with family when this started happening to me as well, same text in the OP screenshots too! You can imagine the spook I got. The messages appear on startup and just randomly while using my phone.

So it's not common to Samsung phones then, and not all rooted. What apps are people here affected using? e.g. Snapchat, or more likely something "free" and Chinese, things like Cheetah Mobile, Qihoo 360, Baidu, "free" Chinese web browsers, like Dolphin, Boat, DU, UC, etc.

Non rooted Nexus 5X, same messages too. My recently installed apps:

Pokemon GO
JuiceSSH
Hitman Companion App

I have an LG V10 and don't have Pokemon GO installed. I do however have UC Browser and I've been using it around the time the Chinese toasts had started.

I know people in Hong Kong have been very upset about Pokemon recently, because apparently they've been renamed into Mandarin rather than Cantonese. Many Hong Kongers don't like anything that stinks of PRC and Beijing.

Another 'me, too' here. Samsung Galaxy S5. First noticed it today. Took quite a while to be able to time a screenshot . OCR'd the images and translated from Chinese to English - "Start File Monitoring Service" and "Processed Files." That brought me here.

Seemed to consistently happen within a second or so of coming out of lock screen after sleep mode. Only background updates in the past several days; nothing installed, nothing manually updated. Based on a wild hunch and previous issues with it, I have uninstalled ES File Explorer (most recent update version according to Playstore is 9 July 2016. )

Haven't seen the popup a single time in the 20-30 minutes since uninstalling. It was happening almost every time I came out of sleep and lockscreen.

Anyone else for UC Browser, or similar?

FWIW I tend to be very particular about any "free" Chinese apps I use, I use Chrome only for browsing.

That's a Chinese app, and apparently has had some fooky goings on with it recently.

I had removed it once several months ago because of a 'glitch' with an update. Then (apparently foolishly) reinstalled it as a secondary file manager. It's gone for good now, though.

My wife has an HTC Desire 610 doing this. No apps have been installed recently (just background updates). I get the errors even while using Google Play Store (when I was looking up the last apps installed). I just uninstalled ES File Explorer. We'll see what happens.

I'm gonna download ES File Explorer and scan it for the toast references...
