Help Random screenshots when pushing home key

I have a Samsung Galaxy i9000 (Canadian version) running froyo.

A few times it starts to freeze a little in different apps and when i push the home key to close the app it takes a screen shot. I push it a few more times and i get 3 or 4 screen shots saved before it goes back to normal and closes the app.

Has this happened to any1 else? Any idea how to stop it?

Yeah I have that same issue. It seems that the back button is somehow randomly being read by the OS as being depressed so when I hit the home key, it takes a screen capture.

This is certainly a software issue, as this didn't happen during the 2 months I used 2.1

Same here, back button always active since 2.2 installed. I lock the phone and unlock to get back...sometimes few times.

Just wanted to let you know that I also share this problem now that I upgraded to Froyo. Can't find any information about this yet....anyone found anything yet? I have firmware JL2.

Same here, got the phone today on 2.1, upgraded through the painful software known as Kies to 2.2.1.

A couple of times the phone took a random screenshot and my hand was no where near the back button, it was actually in my left hand as well.

Has anyone of you performed a factory reset?

I have performed several factory resets with no change in behaviour. I have also been randomly been getting a "No data connection" error as well since this problem has started. When this happens I can't phone out, send text messages but for some reason can still get internet/Google Talk access. After a period of time I start getting a proper connection and can use the phone as normal.

Talking to the Bell Tech Support yesterday they stated that it's the Phone's OS being the problem and that I should try re-installing it using Kies. I highly doubt that will fix it as I'm hearing rumors (here in Edmonton) that all of the cell phone carriers are having network problems and since these smartphones are basically always on line I suspect it's this that's causing this wierd back button problem.

Some history on this, I upgraded to Froyo on Sunday Dec 26 and had no problems until Tuesday when both the network and back button problems started occuring.

Wanted to provide an update, but since I have been home for the last 24 hours the phone has been working better with hardly any back button problems or network issues. I will be heading out later to an area that's notoriously bad for network coverage so it will be interesting to see if the problems return when I am there.

I live in Edmonton too. I find I bad reception in places I never used to (with my old non-smart phone). Especially when I call my wifes Samsung Galaxy S. We are both with BELL. Are you still having reception/call quality issues? I'm on the verge of returning my phone.

Mines been great all weekend while I have been home. I am back to work on Tuesday and it's been horrible there the last week for myself and a co-worker.

Honestly I have really liked this phone except for the botched first Froyo update that Samsung appears to have fixed. My phone was working great up until this last week and I think now that it is directly related to the network issues. My theory is that the phone gets locked up while it's trying to communicate with the towers so simple things like the back button get delayed.

I will provide an update again on Tuesday as to how things have been.

I had originally updated to 2.2 early in December and was getting the random screen shot issue, but the new update appears to have fixed that issue :)

I did get a dropped call yesterday after my update, but who knows if that is related to the update. Reception seems to be normal in Calgary (Bell) for me.

Just to provide an update to this. For 2 of the 4 days back at work today my phone was working fine. The second day that it wasn't working properly I had the menu button come back and I noticed it was when my network connection was unstable. After 45 minutes on the phone with Bell's tech support they finally acknowledged to me that I am not the only one calling in about network problems and that there was a problem. The tech at the other end notified me that they were opening a ticket for that area to investigate the problems that I and 2 other colleagues were having with their phones.

The best thing to do it keep calling in to Bell and complain about the network when you don't have a stable connection. It appears as though they don't know what the cause is but I don't think they understand how widespread it is so the more calls the better. I'm back at home now again and the phone is working great which just tells me that there are only certain towers that are the problem and not the whole network.

It might be a Samsung firmware issue.

Try this:
From phone dial pad,
*#*#2663#*#* (TouchScreen Firmware Version)
It helps to mark down the values displayed before and after the update just to see if anything changed.
Click update on TSP FW & Touch Key.

Don't touch the screen, or perform any other actions until it's done. It might take upto 5 minutes for the 1st one, and 2 minutes or so for the second one.

Exit, and reboot.

Good Luck

I got my first galaxy s in november. I updated to 2.2 in december. Shortly after my phone wouldn't start up. I contacted bell and they said 2.2 was destroying the galaxy and they sent me a new one. The new phone had froyo 2.2 and within 8 days that phone died as well. I am on my third phone now, also with 2.2, and I am getting the screen capture issues. I am going to try to get bell to take back this defective hunk of garbage and get an iphone.

My provider is Verizon. My cell is a Samsung Fascinate. It randomly takes screenshots when I'm trying to turn off the screen. It has happened following the use of different apps so I can't pin point it. At the time it also locks all functions. I can't disable network connectivity, switch to airplane mode, or power off by holding in the power key. I personally fear its a malitious attempt to read my screen. After a few minutes all functionality returns. My most recent Verizon update didn't fix it and the update prior to the problem was 2 weeks before it started so I don't think it is a glitch associated with the update. Any info on a fix would sure be appreciated.

Hiya!

I have a GT-S5660 (Galaxy Gio), and problem is the same. Funny thing is, I never had the issue with Froyo. However, it should be mentioned that I had only had the phone for a couple of days before I upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.3 over Kies. Now, the BACK button on the touch is randomly "freezing" so that the middle (menu) button pulls a screenshot whenever pressed. I seem to get out of this weird mode by hard-handed methods, i.e. hitting the touch display hard or by literally breaching the phone back and forth using both hands. At first, I thought I could have some hardware issue with the display (my two-year-old has thrown it on the floor several times), yet as it turns out to be a somewhat common issue, I'm not so sure anymore. I've tried the service code to reset touchscreen firmware, yet it had no effect. I haven't factory reset in a while, but it seems that does who've tried it has had no success. Any ideas or updates on this matter?

Cheers~
