Random unknown calling screen loaded at random?

Hey, Newbie here.

This morning, my phone was sitting on the desk and seemingly at random loaded a calling screen (but not the usual one or any other calling screen I've seen). I didn't recognise the number (not sure any dialling was taking place) and when I hit "End" a few times, the button responded (not just a static screen) but nothing happened. Resorted to hitting the home button which took me to the home screen but there was nothing in recent apps or call log to show what this was.

In hind sight I wish I'd taken a screen shot but at the time was just keen to get out of the unknown application.

Am running the stock Samsung launcher on a Galaxy S4 Active.

Has anyone else experienced this? Have any thoughts on what it might be?

Just think that your phone might have been hacked? Not sure though.

Have you tried holding the home key and getting the running app list? If it is still listed, you may be able to get it back up and see what it is.

Yes, that was my first port of call, but nothing there which would indicate what it might be.
