Root Rank newb with simple question

Taking baby steps since I'm new to Android. My short term goal is to be rooted but running stock. I unlocked the bootloader which went well thanks to the great info on this forum. That process, of course, wiped my phone.
As I'm putting things back I realize that the next step, temp flashing a recovery and rooting, may also wipe my phone. So that's my question; will it?

That's exactly what I'm doing! I'm coming from the blackberry world and have updated OS's many times, including some hybrid ones circulating on the web so I have the nerve; I just lack the knowledge.

I felt like I was lining up to have my teeth pulled only to end up with a cleaning. It went perfectly smoothly the first time. Used amon ra via fastboot boot recovery-vigor-whatever.img and Boom, root access.
Having fun now with root explorer. I renamed a few bloats to get rid of them and am proceeding carefully. Well worth it!

glad its working out for you. you have made a good decision to not permanently install your recovery. you can always permanently install it later if you decide you need to.
