RAR all right

I downloaded RAR from apkpure. I then download a rar file to use as a test case. How the heck do I make this thing show the book? I have looked at pretty much all of the instructions and am still at a loss.

Is that for windows? I don't have a computer, just the Moto G Stylus. Will it work with Android, or is there something else that will? By the way, I'm still having problems with that lousy djvu.

How do I actually open a document in rar and read it? I had the title right there and I tapped it but it didn't work. Long press didn't help either.

You don't. @ocnbrze is correct--RAR files are compressed files; they've been around the UNIX world forever.

It might help us sort this out if you point us to where you got the items in question. Specifically, you said you "downloaded RAR from apkpure"--can you give us its link?

"I then download a rar file to use as a test case."
Give us a link to that file, too.

"How the heck do I make this thing show the book?"
I don't know yet! We'll need to figure out exactly what's going on here. Generally speaking, and I mean in my UNIX-based world, using an RAR file is a simple matter of decompressing it using an appropriate tool, then using a program to do whatever it's intended to do, i.e., if it's a compressed video, decompress the file and then watch the video it spits out.

We'll get you there! :)

I am uploading a screenshot of the apk rar file. I think there was a sample file included. The ebooks I'm trying to open I got from zlibrary.

RAR is my archiver of choice, and it is a general purpose archiver / compression utility along the lines of zip, lha, gzip, bz2, etc. I don't understand the book thing, unless the books have been compressed in RAR format. In any case, the RAR app just looks like a file browser when loaded, you navigate to where the RAR compressed file is located. Tap the archive, and the contents of the archive will be displayed, at this point, you can then tap on the file in question, your book or whatever, and you'll be presented with the typical list of apps asking you how you want to open it. Alternately, you can check the box next to the RAR file and then choose the little icon on top displaying the up arrow, this will save the compressed files to a location specified by you. RAR is not a book reader.

Ok, I've supposedly extracted this ebook file twice now. Where the heck is it? Why can I still not read it?

I don't use any third-party RAR utils, as my devices and computers handle that format natively.

RAR is just a compressed container file, like ZIP, which can contain pretty much anything, like documents, e-book collections,, game ROMs, etc.

What is the extension of the book yo<re trying to |ead, I. ~.

At work, I have made front ends to the database on what otherwise would be the crm / accounting system which we purchased for big bucks, and we buy per seat. WinRAR let's me package those things up into an installer when I choose sfx, the program, where it's going on the drive, a read me file that pops up, that's all really nice features

I think that most file directory utils these days will deal nicely with RAR files. I got hooked on RAR because of the sfx features.

Here is one example. There are others. How the heck do I get to the point of being able to read the darn thing?

I'm not sure how to do that. I wish it came with better instructions. Once/if I get it extracted, do I send it to a regular reader or just use it in RAR?

I'm using the rar app and I navigate to a folder that contains a rar file, "gta.rar":

When I tap on that archive, it displays the contents of the archive, which in this case is a textfile named "gta.txt":

I check the box next to the archived textfile, and tap the icon to extract the file:

I'm presented with a dialog confirming the path where I want to extract the files to, I tap on "ok"

After extraction, a new folder appears that contains the extracted file:

Just do the same thing with your snakes archive, "extract" the folder with the horribly long name, and then just navigate to it with your phones file manager. I don't know the format of the book within, but once you top on whatever is in there, your phone will either know what to do, or at that point it will ask you how you want to open the file. Remember, rar is an archiving and compression utility, nothing more, you can't read your book with rar hope this helps

I guess it's been extracted. I got a long message that said it's open. How the heck do I find it from here? Is it listed under downloads, files, or something else?

What do I do about a .bin file? Is that yet another type of ebook? Why are there all these different kinds? I'd think 2 or 3 would be enough.

Well, I looked it up myself (for once) and it looks as if it's a binary file, whatever that means. It may have been something else that somehow got corrupted. I know these were supposed to have been ebooks. Is there a way to use them? Remember, I have no computer access.

If it's been extracted, where did it go? I have looked without success. I'm pretty sure I followed your steps religiously, Trom.

I tried doing that again and it said "The following file already exists". What do I do now? Should I replace or rename the file, or neither?
