Help RAZR cannot add accounts

I've had this problem with my RAZR for a while now that has become very frustrating. When I go to Settings, then to the Accounts section and try to add a new account I keep getting the following error: Sorry! The Application My Accounts (process com.motorola.setup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I've not been able to come up with how to stop this process and restart it or not get rid of the error without a flash of the phone... Any direction on resolving this would be most appreciated. Otherwise, the phone is fine.

I think I had that problem a few weeks ago. If I remember correctly it started happening after I removed a yahoo email account.

What I did was I went into settings>device setup, and I removed both my email accounts (not the Gmail account that syncs your contacts and apps, just the email accounts), re-added them, rebooted and that seemed to fix the issue.

Just a warning, I'm not sure I this is true or not but I've read a post about someone having removed their email accounts and not being able to re-add them. I had no trouble doing so but I thought I'd let you know. Hope this helps.

There used to be a bug a long time ago that caused this and there was a way to remove a file from on of system directories that fixed this. If nothing else helps and you are rooted let me know and I will look it up.

Not rooted. Stock OS from the phone. Haven't attempted to remove and re-add accounts due to the error and fear I wouldn't be re-add deleted accounts

Is yahoo even in the accounts page? I don't see it. But on topic I also cannot add any email accounts. It gets stuck on connecting to server and never does anything.

no problems here, but then I use the yahoo email app since the stock email app kinda sucks. that's my opinion, anyway.

if you're getting that force close error, might be time to review installed apps and remove some or you may have to reset the phone.

try going into safe mode- if it works that way, then it's a downloaded app causing the problem.

Couldn't get that Safe Mode thing to work. The new update that rolled out didn't fix the issue either. Maybe when ICS gets pushed. Oh well...

Have you tried clearing the cache partition from stock recovery?

I just found a very old fix I posted a year ago that used to help with this problem on the original droid. I am not sure if it works on the Razr, but it is always worth a try.

Root is required. If you do not need root, root the phone and unroot it after fixing this problem.

1. Reboot your phone.
2. Open file manager and go to data\data and delete com.android.providers.settings.
3. Reboot again and add another Gmail account.

I flashed Wet Dream ROM to my Atrix, but it was the lite semi-deblured version. Same thing happened to me.

Tried your fix, but it didn't work, s I reflashed, this time with the fully blurred version.

Everything is working fine now.

It must be a motorola file, or files, missing in the lite version of the rom.

Well, it happens iwth custom ROMs.
