Razr firmware update

Exactly, I never said I accepted it lol. When they come back up just got the Droid Razr support forum for Motorola and the top sticky should give instructions on how to sign up.

Good news!

Droid RAZR about to get bugfix update, including data and camera | Android Central
Some good news for those of you suffering with that little slice of sexy otherwise known as the Motorola Droid RAZR: An update's on the way (and we're told that a soak test has already begun) that's going to squash a few bugs, including that blasted SIM card error, and to improve the camera. Here's the list:

SIM error notification has been fixed
Improved camera features and quality
Improved stability of menu access, browser, phone dialer, video playback and music player to prevent force-close errors and lockups
Updated group message notification in e-mail
Improvement in 3G/4G data connectivity
Maintain network connection upon completion of a voiec call
Background color has been adjusted to improve readability in Lapdock connection UI menu items.

Good stuff. Look for the update to drop any time now.

I'm actually amazed this phone even needed an update yet. I've had some REALLY good luck with it, that being said I did come from a Samsung DC.
I've had some data dropping, but nothing that I'm up in arms about. Otherwise, pretty sure it's been a very solid phone with nothing I can complain about. (unless they improved battery life :) )

I got the update as part of the soak test group a little after noon eastern time zone today. Can't tell a huge difference in the data connectivity yet, still seems like there is a several minute delay from the 4g/3g handoff if I'm in an area where the 4g signal isn't very strong and drops.

It did break the root, but the DoomLordv3/zergrush one click put it right back.

I am a little reluctant to accept an update to be honest. My Razr has easily been the best smartphone out of the box I have ever had and I have had dozens. Not one single issue. Just a fast and fluid experience. No dropped calls, dropped data sessions, random reboots, nothing.

I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

I'm with you... im gonna definitely wait a few days after its out. I got burnt way too bad with the thunderbolt update reboot issue.

What has changed with the camera??

I updated. It did remove root, but reapplied it without issue. First impressions, reception is even better for me. Had constant 4 bars at my house, now I have 5 :) Nothing else to report yet, working like before thus far.

As Gravy said...how is the camera pic quality now? This is one of my very few beefs with this phone. Are the pics better? Or does it take em faster? What's different????

I would not bother to take it, but that's just me.

People follow @DroidRzr on Twitter.

Great site, and they are gonna have a prerooted build for us when the time is right. ;)

I will say camera speed on the update has improved, it's pretty fast. Not GN fast, but it's quick. I am still trying to determine quality.

Same here. There is a good argument the Gnex camera is too fast, taking crappy pictures really fast.

anyone else try to change the background picture and a few of the stock ones dont load?

pre-update of course, i dont think i got anything...?

Please tell me it fixes the data dropping. It is driving me nuts.

I may be wrong, but the data dropping doesnt seem to be limited to the RAZR. In fact, the data strength from the RAZR is much stronger than my DC. But, that being said, I think the problem lies in your area. I have very random bouts of data dropping in Dallas, which is supposed to be a very strong and established area. When I visited Wichita Falls TX, I never had a problem, and it's a newer 4G market than Dallas.

It just seems that data isnt phone dependent, but rather an issue with Verizon's network. Now, there is an element where the phone is responsible for the proper switching of signals; how long does it take you to properly eject a flash drive, plug in a new one, and pull up the drive so you can see the contents? It's not instant, it's fast, but it takes 10 seconds or so... I dont see why data should be instant. Consider a constant 3G AND 4G signal (for instant switching), now you're using double the signal and draining the battery insanely fast. Basically you're turning off a 4G signal (unplugging a USB drive) and plugging in/turning on a new signal, then accessing the data.

I've never had to wait more than 30 seconds for it to properly switch between signals. Holding the signal has been a different story though, and I truly blame Verizon. Some days are great, others, not so much.

Just to remind everyone Moto's rules regarding participation in the SOAK tests is that you do not discuss update outside of the special web site that Motorola provides. From what I've been told they do check these forums to see if anyone is talking about SOAK tests... and if they identify you they'll remove you from future participation in SOAK tests.

I just read some of you guys installed it while rooted and it broke root so the update should work, mine just says the Software update failed! every time

More importantly, some folks have confirmed you can root after the OTA, so root not only doesn't screw up the OTA, you can re-root.

I'm not familiar, BTW, with a case of simply having root messing up OTAs. It's all the stuff you do after rooting that messes things up!
