Razr firmware update

I'm a new verizon customer (received the phone last night) had the update ready to install this morning. It installed fine; though I did not use the phone enough before the update to comment if it makes a difference :)

I hope it improves the camera quality (mostly auto focus from what I've seen).

I received the firmware update this morning and it was successful. I was not aware there was an upcoming firmware update until I looked it up this morning. My phone is not rooted.

Update downloaded this morning :) installing now....wish it was ICS, but I'm impressed with the fast roll out of the update!

i just went to "settings", "about phone", "system updates" and had it check for an update...and it found it. downloading now...

WOW!!! In my opinion the autofocus on the camera is a whole lot faster. I noticed it the most when taking a picture of something very close. I did not have to switch to the macro feature in order to take the picture. In seconds i would say that it used to take the camera about 15-20 seconds to focus, and sometimes the focus box still wouldn't turn green. Just took about 10 different pictures from 10 different distances and in all the cases it only took about 2-3 seconds to focus. In my opinion the picture quality still seems to be the same. Not super super crisp but not super super fast at least

I've only had the phone 2 days, but I received the update last night, and so far I'm getting a strong 4G signal, whereas yesterday it was a 3G or less, with fewer bars. My office is in a tricky spot for cell coverage, and my HTC Incredible routinely only showed 2 bars of 3G.

Also, I am rooted and had no problem receiving the update.

Initial impression, extremely satisifed with this phone.

I just now and updated and then re-rooted (not a bloat fan- like to freeze). Seems working fine. I had no complaints before, besides the 4G drain (is what it is) and the HDMI reboots. Will test to see if fixed.

Be prepared for some ugly battery hits, especially if you are in an area where VZW is having outage issues.

Got my update last night...I couldn't have stopped it if I wanted to. I am really hoping it fixes the camera and the colors seem to be better and connectivity seems slightly improved. I also was getting Sim card errors so I really hope those are fixed.

I may be wrong, but the data dropping doesnt seem to be limited to the RAZR. In fact, the data strength from the RAZR is much stronger than my DC. But, that being said, I think the problem lies in your area. I have very random bouts of data dropping in Dallas, which is supposed to be a very strong and established area. When I visited Wichita Falls TX, I never had a problem, and it's a newer 4G market than Dallas.

It just seems that data isnt phone dependent, but rather an issue with Verizon's network. Now, there is an element where the phone is responsible for the proper switching of signals; how long does it take you to properly eject a flash drive, plug in a new one, and pull up the drive so you can see the contents? It's not instant, it's fast, but it takes 10 seconds or so... I dont see why data should be instant. Consider a constant 3G AND 4G signal (for instant switching), now you're using double the signal and draining the battery insanely fast. Basically you're turning off a 4G signal (unplugging a USB drive) and plugging in/turning on a new signal, then accessing the data.

I've never had to wait more than 30 seconds for it to properly switch between signals. Holding the signal has been a different story though, and I truly blame Verizon. Some days are great, others, not so much.

The 4g issues appear more related to the network rather than a particular device.

i dont understand. they updated our phones with worse battery performance?

I think pm is referring to the radio trying to get a signal and eating battery, but not the update.

Initial indications are the update has made things better for 4g, but the network itself seems to be the main culprit for 4g issues.

I think it's because of the Verizon Location Agent app. Me and some of the guys on here are having issues with it. The app automatically launches and keeps the phone awake all the freakin time which drains the battery.

I had a problem seemingly related to smart actions. The one that turns off 3g/4g data when I am on wifi. I could not get a data connection after the update off of wifi. Seems the toggle got confused and it would turn 3g/4g data ON when on wireless and OFF when off. Strange. I had to go into settings and switch 3g/4g data back on and I was golden.

Grrr.

What does the location agent control? Also, can it be turned off?

I have no idea what it controls or what it's even used for. It's one of those BS Verizon apps that people never use. All I know is it keeps on running in the background causing my phone to stay awake ALL THE TIME. And the crappy thing is you can't even uninstall it.

VLA probably isn't the issue--it isn't and hasn't done squat on mine. You might want to check all your location settings and apps. I'd suggest rebooting a few times, that seems to help.

If I switch to wifi, I get great battery life. The 3G/4G issue is what I was referring to. Battery life under this load has been terrible when using 3g/4g.

Updated loaded fine for me. Did quick run through for my bigs apps. Everything seems fine. 4g seems better. ( subjective but pretty noticeable)
