Razr firmware update

Can someone please clarify for me, is this update a Verizon RAZR only update or is it one for GSM version of the Razr too? Do any European owners have this update also?

I was able to download the update but it keeps failing to install, anyone else having this issue?

Same issue here. I have tried a few times. The download goes smooth, battery charged 100%, phone boots down, starts install, bar goes about 20% and then I get the "!" and it fails....I've done everything I possibly can besides a factory reset which I don't want to do.

Anyone out there have any ideas as to why the update fails?
Called Verizon and they have no answer besides trying the factory reset. they are always quick to say "factory reset" ARGH. any help would be awesome. thanks....

Since getting a new update, My battery life is horrible And I keep losing data service. When I do get data service back The web browser force closes At random times.I have been on the phone 4 times with verizon and they cant figure out what the issue is. They are sending me a new phone. They seem to think something may have been corrupted when the new software installed self. We shall see how The new phone acts.

Keep us posted.

My battery life has been sub par today as well, but just like when you root and rom, you need to give the phone a few days/recharge cycles for things to settle in like the cache etc.

Good luck!

Is it ok to install the OTA update while rooted?
Am I correct in believing that doing so will simply update and also break root.
And I can re-root again afterwards?

Sorry if redundant, I don't want to screw anything up

you are correct, worked fine for me! I was rooted without any changes (just for wifi tether and tibu), applied update and re-rooted just fine!

For those that have not removed any files via root you can try booting into safe mode and see if it will update that way, turn phone on and wait for the EYE to show up on the screen and press/hold both volume up and down until the screen changes, you will see safe mode bottom left of screen, for those that DID remove files, you can try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406550

Good luck

Well...My phone went bonkers last night. Web browser kept crashing, then, the phone woke itself up, and kept the screen brightness at 100% until the battery low warning came on, at which point I noticed it. I had to do a factory reset to get it to work again. I hope the phone they are sneding me doesnt have the same issue.

I'm starting to wonder if the abysmal battery life is VZW, the OTA settling in, or what. Yesterday was the first day my phone lasted over 24 hours (down to 45% battery). If the OTA truly screwed the pooch, I wouldn't expect to see anything good. Granted, Android OS is still the biggest battery eater, but at 26 hours I still have 34% left...

And yes, yesterday was a light day. But normally I couldn't go 15 hours on standby.

I can easily go 24 hours before and after the update (i suspect it could go 48 with minimal usage - checking phone calls and such - but i don't feel like spending two days to test such) with my phone with light usage (mind you with heavy usage; the phone sucks with regards to battery life - maybe 3 hours and a fraction). The phone is still very new and not so much customization so take what I said with a grain of salt.

Just in case what I downloaded was not 'the upadate' this is what the phone indicates it is running:

6.11.748.xt912; base band version 06.35.0b; build # 6.5.1-73
-
Generally speaking it looses 10% per night - given the rough readout of the battery indication this coudl be anywhere between 5% and 15%.
-
I have woken up in the morning and had notifications - i have sync set to once every 4 hours.

To clarify a bit, I'm seeing good results with 3G only. The second I switch to 4G, it goes belly up in terms of keeping a connection. This is a new issue, so again, I'm leaning towards VZW sucking at the moment.

How do i get the update? I went to settings about phone update and it says search for update is not available? Am i missing something?

from having great batt life mine went terrible and the 3g kept going out. VZW promised if i did the reset it would take the phone back to its original state before the update.. yeah right. Back to sq 1 although the batt life is improving again right now. VZW are sending me another phone incase the update did something to the phone

Another thing thats happened is every time i get a message like a text the phone does the notification sound but also vibrates. Vibrate is set to never come on in the sound settings. Anyone have an idea how i can stop this? It was fine and never came on before the update

Mine (European GSM variant) says the same now, always used to say phone is up to date. I hope that means I'll get the OTA soon so I'll be rid of those FCs.

Edit: It's checking again now, but doesn't seem to be able to say "yes" or "no".

Mine does exactly the same.

VLA probably isn't the issue--it isn't and hasn't done squat on mine. You might want to check all your location settings and apps. I'd suggest rebooting a few times, that seems to help.

If I switch to wifi, I get great battery life. The 3G/4G issue is what I was referring to. Battery life under this load has been terrible when using 3g/4g.

Same here as far as wifi and my battery life, and in addition I save on my data plan by using my wifi. :)

Nope no root. Ive been checking a few times a day but i get the same thing everytime, check for update is not availble.
