Razr Maxx Battery Not So Good??

shep938

Newbie
Had my Maxx for about a month. Battery went from 100% to 15% in 6hrs 50min. With average use of checking Facebook a few times, txing and a lil and sum web surf. I also was running iHeart radio for about 4 of those hours. Brightness level is halfway, with Display Power Saver checked.
When i look at the battery use...Display is 34%, iHeart radio is 29% and the rest are like around 5%. What does everybody think???.

IHeart is a drain as you can see but the issue here is how long does it keep the device from sleeping?

Take a screen shot of the iheart app when you select it in battery settings and post it up here.

I'm having the same issue. During the week, I use my phone as a radio (using Tunein radio app) from 9am to 12pm, then again from 2-5pm. WHen I get home from work, my phone is at 30-40%.

I'm trying to figure this out myself. I've read posts from users that say they use it 'heavily' during the day and still have 70-80% left. Now that is impressive (depending on the meaning "Heavy").

So far, I guess I'm not totally impressed.

Guys. The MAXX has amazing battery life for a 4G device. But if your streaming music for that long no matter how big the battery is its going to tax it a good amount.

Unless your streaming the music over wifi then your going to run into major battery drainage.

HEAVY usage means constantly on the phone making calls, checking email browsing sites etc. But when your data connection is CONSTANTLY uploading and downloading data and is never in a sleep mode that will kill your battery asap.

Yesterday I did not work so I didn't use the radio app at all. I might have checked Facebook a few times a day, viewed the weather, and check some sports scores. From 10am to 7pm, it was down to 30% from a full charge.

To me, that is not "WOW" impressive. What is "Wow" impressive is to go 2-3 days of browsing, emails, Facebook, etc without a charge. By the way, I"m actually on the phone talking for less than 5 minutes a day. Probably a minute a day.

Perhaps I should buy a mini tablet rather than a phone.

I stream Slacker radio over 4G an hour a day. During that hour my phone only drains 4 to 5%. I also have my screen brightness set at 75% and do not use smart tools and can go 2 days without charging. Facebook was buggy for me an a huge battery hog, so I removed it.

I have also noticed big battery drain while streaming Internet radio, it seems like I could kill the battery in around 6 hours.

My Droid X would be dead in 3 hours.

It's still better than before.

My battery time has dropped quite a bit since the last update. I normally plug in every night when I go to bed, but on a couple occasions did not and was still able to easily make 2 days on one charge (with battery to spare). Since the update, I'm down to 20-30% most nights when I go to bed on the single-day [moderate] usage.

I agree that using any streaming apps via 4G is going to be a big drain on any phone - this one included. Any other phone is going to last significantly less with that usage. Maybe try switching to 3G while streaming as long as it keeps up if you want to conserve some more battery.

How would one go about purposely switching to 3G then back to 4G?

Son has this phone and he uses it heavily--phone calls, texting, Google music streaming, Angry Birds Space, etc. I don't think he ever uses a streaming radio app...but Google Music does stream (unless you specifically download the selection into the phone). My guess is that the streaming used by iHeartRadio is somehow pushing 4G and/or the CPU much more than Google Music is. Most days, he's only down to 80% at 11PM (from 6AM!), and I am jealous (I have a Rezound, which gets pretty good battery life, but not THAT good!). A few days he's been down to 60%, but that was only with very heavy use plus battery-powered Navigation for an hour.

With all due respect, there's no way he's doing what you're saying to any extent and still having 80% battery at the end of the day.

I agree. That's an awful lot of usage for draining only 20%. Again, wake up at 8am after a full nights charge, be at work at 9am, use my radio app for 5-6 hours, make no calls, on Facebook 4-5 times during the day, use internet 20-30 minutes during lunch and I'm down to 30% at the end of the day (6pm). When I go to bed around 12-1am, I'm down to 10-20% and put it back on the charge.

Somethind doesn't jive with either my phone or his phone. I wish there is a standard list of things to disable right across the board to get maximum battery life.

Download bad ass battery monitor. I used it on my Galaxy battery hog Nexus to see what was eating the battery. It gives you detailed info and itemizes each process that is running.

didn't feel like reading through all of the post but i will agree if you arn't convinced yet... iheart radio sucks the juice big time. i can get 2 days out of moderate use, but only about 5-6 hours while using iheart. Also, my phone gets hot as hell, i've seen 115 while surfing and listening to iheart

So can I say that TuneIn Radio app will do the same as Iheart? Both of them are streaming radio app right?

I can certaintly try not play that from now on during the day and see how long the battery lasts.

I listen to TuneIn radio all day and it kills the battery. Any streaming app will. I noticed that even plugged in all day while streaming my battery never goes back up.

I downloaded this app (bad ass battery monitor). It shows, under app sucker, that my biggest consumption comes from these two: Flixter (13%) and Weather Channel (13%). When I go to 'Manage' these apps, here's what happens:

Weather Channel: Either force stop or uninstall. I force stop and it's still there. I really don't want on get rid of it because I use it every day.

Flixter doesn't give an option to force stop. I have to uninstall it. Again, it's an app I check on weekends.

Any suggestions?

Use standard weather app on phone for basic weather conditions, delete weather channel and use an app called "Rain Alarm" the best hands down for radar and weather forecasts.

Flixster should not be taking up that high of percent. Uninstall and then reinstall. See what happens after that.

After all above is done Reboot phone
(hold down power button and volume down until it turns off) and then turn back on via power button. That will give you a fresh start.

Let me know how that works.

I agree, this last update stunk. My office has a VZ repeater and since that last update I only get 1X when before I got 3G like everyone else and there are no issues with the repeater. With that said, my battery life is not better in fact it is slightly worse.

I've had problems with FB draining the battery too. I'm tempted to uninstall it and see if there is a big improvement.

Did what you suggested. Deleted Weather Channel and downloaded Rain Alarm. The only thing I don't like is not having my 5-10 day forecast. Not sure if Rain Alarm can do that with either the free or paid version, but I can use the Verizon Weather app. That's fine. Also deleted Flixter and reinstalled.

Just checked it again. This time, it was System(com.motorola.blure.friendfeed) that was taking up 45% of the battery followed by Badass at 32%.

The blur friend feed is motos Facebook and twitter integrated apps. You must have signed into Facebook and twitter apps through the "Accounts" in settings. If so leave that if you use Facebook and twitter it not then sign out of them it will save you battery.

I know this may sound crazy but delete bad ass at this point. You found the culprits now lets see what happens. You don't want another system running full time monitoring draining battery.

We need to also understand that we bought the MAXX to be able to use this phone as we want and to have extended usage with the 3300 battery.

Turning off all the stuff "we want" kind of defeats the purpose lol. There are some apps that dispatch battery more than others or that have bugs and those apps should be deleted immediately.

I would say run the phone for a full day, use it the way you want and at the end of that day report back here with findings.
