Razr or Rezound?

codyt

Newbie
Hey everybody,

I have been reading up on the HTC Rezound and Moto Razr quite a bit but cant decide which to get. Im available for an update from my droid eris and i do like Sense. But i am afraid the Rezound will have crappy battery life just like the TBolt, I bought one but couldnt get away from a charger for more than 3 hours.

Like I said, I am coming from an Eris so either phone will be a huge upgrade from this P.O.S.
Any thoughts or comments? Or reasons to stay away from one or the other?

TIA

Edit: I am also pretty good at dropping my phone which is making me think Razr, but i like taking pics and sounds like the razr is gonna have a crappy camera...

I'm in the exact same boat! After living with the Eris for so long, I'm trying to be really careful about my next purchase. Also concerned about the camera. Someone posted a thread where they played with the phone for a while and posted some pics, nothing stellar, but could be worse.

Another bit I'm concerned about is this 'bloatware' I keep hearing about. A friend has an Incredible and says he constantly has various apps that just start running on their own. And has researched and says it's common. Is this normal, that these programs just start running? Don't think I've experienced that on the Eris.

I ask, as someone mentioned the Razr isn't likely to have that much bloatware (which is a good thing), though I could be misunderstanding. Thoughts on this aspect?

According to some early reviews as you can see in other thread, the camera in Razr seems much improved over Bionic. At least they seem to have addressed slow focusing. The sharpness of sample photos look good too.

And if you care about battery life lasting daytime, I bet Rezound will be worse than Razr, Gnex. It's got too small battery for its power craving hardware spec and Sense is quite resource hog.

Bloat is there but it doesn't run in the background. The RAZR I demo'd after a fresh boot was lean and mean the entire time. No Verizon bloat was running after 45 minutes

That's good to hear. So bloats on Razr don't even auto-start in background?
Usually they auto-start by themselves, and even when we manually kill them they just pop back up in running services.

Bloat is no big deal, b/c I'm pretty sure that even with a locked bootloader you'll be able to root and remove all the bloat at the very least.

I too am a member of the dread Eris ownership club. I waited for a thin for with dual core all year. I would've snatched up the Galaxy S2 had VZW not botched that up but the Razr is it. Thin, slim and dual core with a decent battery/camera. I avoided the Bionic because of its bulky size but the Razr has everything I need. Just remember there will always be something better you just have to be content with what you get.

As Bart Scott from the Jets said last year......CANT WAIT!! lol

Nope they didn't auto start on the demo unit at all. I checked at first boot up and then before I set it down.

trophy - care to give us a little more detail? I thought there was some room to work with the Razr, no? Not at all, or not as much as others?

If your really passionate about rooting and Romming the ReZound will be the better device just based on the bootloader issues.

There is a small chance the Razr bootloader may be unlocked using the same method that works on the International Razr. But this is a VERY SMALL CHANCE. There will still be roms and such that come out for the Razr but nothing like there would be if the bootloader was unlocked. Example you won't be able to try different Kernals or Radios with a locked bootloader.

The ReZound should fall into your typical HTC Rom heaven and Mods out the wazoo.

Im glad to hear the camera is improved over the bionic, and yes the battery in the rezound does sound like its gonna be another TBolt episode.
The Gnex doesnt interest me to much at all bc im pretty good at dropping my phone and samsung doesnt make strong phones...

Actually Samsung phones survive drops pretty well as opposed to its look is suggesting to you. Its plastic body construction absorbs drop shocks better than metal phones like iPhone4 as proven in actual test.

I've had the same thought with regards to rooting. My first priority is to have a phone that works well out of the box though. But am tempted to try the Eris first, before I go and mess up a perfectly good device.

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I am thinking the Rezound...I love certain features of the Motorola but after the carbon fibre & nano tech coating novelty loose it's appeal I am left with a Ethyopian Droid X2. And when I'm stuck in a 2 year and look at the Nexus & Rezounds 720p screens i would be pretty frustrated I didn't wait another week.

This reviewer sums up the screen seem-idly unbiased. click on display.

Actually I suspect quite the opposite is true! From what I've seen of "The Verge" they are likely one of the more biased, and inaccurate, publications. As I mentioned in another thread they posted a review of the iPhone 4S where they claimed that it's battery performance was impressive. The iPhone 4S, for what it's worth, is the device that Apple is currently fighting with to correct some rather daunting battery issues.

It's a little early to tell, Joshua Toplonsky just started the blog this year, but after seeing the Razr first hand I couldn't help but agree with the Pentile issued display. The iPhone 4s for me was just fine, so I don't think all the battery issues effected all phones.

So the same publication says that the BIONIC screen (which is PenTile RGBW) is fantastic is a source to be taken seriously?

Ya know... I do this every time! I think I just need to stop reading these reviews whatsoever.

Each time I start reading these reviews I forget that it's virtually impossible to get a completely accurate review from one or even two of these reviewers. Why? Because the reviewer tries one device for a few days and bases their product review on the performance of that specific device.

Well what if they got a device with a flakey camera? In that case the review will likely end up stating that the models camera has issues even though it may only be an isolated issue affecting that one camera out of the literally thousands produced. Or if, in the case of the Verge, they got an iPhone 4S to evaluate that doesn't have battery issues. Well we know that the product line, as a whole, has issues but their review is based on the performance of that one device and doesn't take into consideration larger issues that never directly affected them.

It's times like this when I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better to have someone go through and consolidate (summarize) all of the individual (subjective) reviews into one master review of the product... rather than try to base a decision on one or two reviews which might not even on target.

Exactly. I mean come on now. That is just a ludicrous statement he made. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

its so ridiculous its baffling.

*my comment is in regards to Nilay not Scott*

I agree 100% I usually don't place a lot stock in reviews even if it's for phones or movies for that matter. This decision has to be really tough for a lot of people the Rezound and the Razr both have admirable qualities. But the screen is what you have to look at constantly, if this was a tv and not phone's it would still be a really difficult decision.

Either way i just need a new phone, my current eris has a dead spot in the screen and is really slow. Ill probably buy the first one out then if i dont like it return it for the other. Whichever one i like the most is the one i will keep.
