Razr or Rezound ??

you2

Android Expert
So now that the nexus is out and appears to have louzy reception; I'm back to picking the razr or rezound. My biggest concern with the rezound are:
display visiblity outside; heat issues (from my poll it seems that more than 25% of the rezounds overheat); lack of root; and htc use of icq.
-
Question has there been issues with the razr now that it has been out for a month or so ? I think at one point there was concern about heat around the speaker causing issues with the glue and vaguely I remember a few threads about bad/awful battery life?
-
Now that the phone been out for a while has these issues gone away or beocme more common? Any other issues ?
-
any issues with the scren scratching (vaguely I think the rezound has had issues with soft glass
-
caveat - I think I've read most of Rushmore's comments (though he might have some additional ones to make) but I would also be interested in hearing other folks opinions. I've noticed (for example on verizon and amazon site the rezound is receiving rather good reviews).
-
Oh and did they ever fix the vibrate on the razr (or soft ringer) ?

I am tapped out. Said everything can think of. Razr wins, but hope the Razr 2 has UNfixed battery, 28nm LTE and higher res display to offset the pentile.

No common issues at all. We had a few posts about glue, no ne confirmed it, rattle issue that was supposed to be known to Moto that only a few members had.

Battery life is totally relative to how you use the phone and cannot be compared.

I am totally subjective here as I really like my Razr.

If I had a Rezound I would feel like the lady in this:

You need an upgrade - YouTube

I have RAZR, dont have a Rezound...

Depending on what I do I can notice the heat from the screen. Thing is I dont try to pinpoint it anymore. Whatever I do I dont do it alot...lol.

Battery life seemed to stabilize. Which has been the case since I can remember. Cant compare to the Rezound but the RAZR is nice outside. My Droid X1 was fine too with 100% brightness...lol. But the RAZR fares better. Especially since it doesnt wash out off center like most LCD's do.

I see posts here n there about rattling, lag? (srry, had to put a ? with that cuz the RAZR is really nice), data issues. If I dont see the problem(s) on my phone I dont really keep up with it.

I think the vibrate is still low. I always turn it and haptic feedback off to help with battery life anyway tho. I dont think the ringer is soft. It scares me sometimes when I get a call at work in the hallway when its real quiet. Speaker sounds louder than my DX1 so thats a plus for me.

I had the rezound and returned it for a razr and by far I prefer the razr. The rezound has a nice camera but I think that is the only advantage it has over the razr. Sense just makes the phone feel not as snappy as the razr. Everything I do on the razr is alot smoother then the rezound. Also my rezound was one that had the buzzing sound when playing audio.

Really the Rezound represents a phone from 30 years old compared to the Razr. Rezound has a faster chip, bench marks higher, better display, better camera, and replaceable battery. So a phone that scores points in every area higher then the Razr is old and out of date? Sorry dude I get that you like the Razr, yet your just wrong. While the Rezound isnt leaps, and lightyears ahead of the Razr. The Rezound is a more powerful device.

Lets keep this nice; I realize this is the razr forum and I expect a bias towards the razr in answers. If someone sez something you don't agree dont' attack their statements; if you have a first hand opinion just give your opinion.
-
I've read tons of reviews; I know that both the razr and rezound have fans and foes for all the obvious and even non obvious reasons. I'm mostly looking for first hand experience where one phone proved more useful or better in certain situations.
-
From playing at the store; I tend to think the rezound has better apps (web browser, dialer, notification bar); I prefer the oled display of hte razr for high contrast and (likely) visibility outside; but i prefer the rezound resolution for smooth text. I think the rezound fits better in my hand. I think the speaker/ear piece on the rezound is louder and the razr less distorition; but i think both phones were equally good with my cheap kilips s2 (not s4).
-
I like the hot swap sd slot of hte razr; and prefer the placement of the rezound on/off and volume switches (i think the razr on off button is el-cheapo). I suspect hte rezound is better built and the razr screen has better resistance to scratches. I like the rezound replaceable battery.
-
I thinik both phones might have heat issues.
-
I like the razr smart actions; and sense feel (I suspect in the razr forum most of you dislike sense).
-
You see I have dislikes and likes between both phones which is why I'm hoping for additional feedback.
-
Maybe the battery has proven to be an issue; or maybe one phone is more reliable; or has better reception or something (not owning either phone) an owner has picked up on that a non-owner wouldn't notice and would be useful to know.
-
That's mostly the reason for the initial query.
-
The reason I think I should buy now and not wait till the next round of razr/rezound/nexus is the 4GB deal which will likely expire in a few weeks. Also I have a trip in 10 days so having a phone before then would be rather useful during travel.

Haha, easy. No one is attacking you personally. We are just having fun here and not being offensive.

Regardless of choosing the Razr or Rezound, both are better IMO than the Gnex :)

Better build, call quality, radio reception and storage capacity.

Hey guys,

I know im gonna get a bit of a biased answer, but this is KILLING me. Ive gone back and forth between so many times that Im about to fall over about which phone I want. On one hand we have the Razr which is pretty good all around, but Ive hear problems with Motorola, specifically with updates, boot loaders ect. And thats a big deal. Other than that, the phone looks like a keeper.

On the other hand we have the Rezound. I love the HD screen, the camera looks better than the Razr, The beats audio is an awesome addition (Im a BIG music freak), and over all the phone seems great too (Plus the easy root is GREAT). Im not sure if this is an HTC thing or Im crazy, but the screen on my Inc 2 gathered finger prints like none other, and the Rezound is the same. Its very annoying. Im not a HUGE fan of the thickness and Sense is becoming a little stale, and the "footprint" of the device is "meh". But other than that, I dig the phone.

The Gnex is kind of an ICS centric device, and its a bit meh beside that. And figuring everything else with get ICS (God willing) by next summer, I dont see the draw to it.

So what do you think? What do you think is the best for me? Are the problems listed proper complaints, or simply "myths"? Lemme know guys!!!

PS. Video capture (actually mainly the audio capture in video mode) is a BIG center point too. I do a lot of recording on my guitar and I want to make sure the audio mic on either will sound decent enough when blasting my electric. It worked well on my old Fascinate. :)

I'm in the same boat; gotta decide soon :) - for me the rezound feels better in the hand; i prefer the razr screen (rezound has better resolution); the audio in camcorder is better for razr; image is better for rezound; rezound can take an extended battery for trips; razr is said to have better 3g reception (I cannot test this and better cell reception in low coverage area); rezound better 4g reception. - To me the biggest negative of the razr are too wide (does not feel good in the hand) woudl prefer if it took extended battery. The rezound biggest negatively is poor display for outside usage; no root. - With regards to your explicit comments - seems like updates occur faster on the moto phones (bionic, razr, photon, ...) than htc phones. The razr has root (for now) which the rezound does not - both ahve locked boot loaders.

HAHAH, fell down laughing slaps you and wake you in your dreams. The galaxy nexus is hands down best not on android but any smartphone of 2011. Is the phone for everbody ? No, i had the razr good phone, rezound just same old design really / really ? its 2011 guys.

P.S. Facted nexus is the android phone period.

This is just a troll post but I will bite anyway.

You are wrong. There is no single best smartphone of 2011. The best smartphone is the one that suits each individuals needs the best. Also, if Galaxy Nexus owners growing reports are any indication it may be pretty bad as a "phone". I didn't understand the rest of your post fully, but yes it is a fact that the Nexus is an Android phone.

You're funny :)

Nexus has some good points, but ICS is coming to other devices and not revolutionary. No, the kickers against the Nexus are battery life and signal reception that only a tower centric mother would love.

Added: Well, that iPhone wannabe slotless design is a kick in the nads too. ;)

I think you guys are suffering from a serious medical condition called the "Perfect Phone Syndrome" or PPS for short. This is brought about by over analysis and a quest for a level of perfection that is difficult if not impossible to reach in this mortal incarnation.

The only known cure is a very difficult one. You go to the store, quickly without analysis look at and pick-up each phone. Instantly your intuition will lean toward one. GO WITH YOUR INTUITION.

Buy the phone and take it home. Forget about further comparisons. Focus all your heart and soul on learning and enjoying your new toy!

All the best luck.

there is some truth to this; but what I found is both were better for some type of usage and worse for others :(
-
If the rezound had root and a matte screen; i think i would go for it without a hesitation. Well maybe not in 5 test calls today everyone said the razr sounded better :9
-
If hte razr were shaped like the rezound and had the rezound browser and dialer I would go for the razr without a hesitation.
-
(doesn't have to be as thick as the rezound but that fit in your hand curve).

you2,

Think about this, you said that you don't like holding the razr. You like the dialer of the rezound. Listen to yourself...." rezound has better resolution; the image is better for rezound; the rezound browser is better; it has an extended battery, etc. " These all seem like primary concerns and uses.

The call quality is very subjective and somewhat based upon current atmospheric conditions plus the other party's phone. From everything you are saying the rezound is for you. I live in a marginal 4G area and my 3G performance is excellent 80% of the time I am in 3G.

Probably next month the rezound will have root. How will you feel then if you buy the razr? Your answer to yourself is the tie breaker.

My brother reformatted his Razr and gave it away! I almost bought one too (before he gave his away).
Come on guys just buy the Rezound and call it done. We're a fun bunch of Rezound people here :)
bye

You listed all the things I prefer about the rezound; but not the things I prefer about the razr which include:
better call quality
display that is better for outdoor usage (the glare on the htc was really annoying me even indoors)
-
I can fix the browser by using opera mobile
-
If hte rezound had the oled display or matte glass or the razr had a larger battery or remove-able battery I think the rest would be minor (though I wish root was generally available).
-
Anyways - right now i'm leaning back towards the razr - but i might change my mind by morning. I think both phones have a lot of high points but also some serious negatives.
-
My perfect phone would be the galaxy s2 (4.3 model) with large battery (2150mwh) and either the razr or rezound lte radio. Will it happen - no but we can wish (this would fix the camera problem on both the razr and rezound as well as a few other issues; though some folks would gripe about touch-wiz which does not bother me)

Quite frankly I think the driod x/razr form factor is not the best for extended use - but great for a front shirt pocket :)

You2,

Android1 is correct. Here we are all people who went through the same review as you and bought the Rezound (actually it was pretty straightforward for me since I hated the way the razr felt and I must have a removable battery). So our opinions are somewhat biased.

However, you just answered your own question by defending the razr! Go to the store immediately buy the razr and be happy.

Agreed.

May be taking my Razr back. Getting some creaking from the rear bottom of the phone. Definitely more prevalent the past few days. Kevlar what? Lol.

The Kevlar is making your phone creak?

Nah just messing.

But for real, I have creaking on the phone. So for example, I flip to landscape mode to text or email etc, when my hand is touching the bottom of the phone, creak.

So I pressed on the bottom of the backplate and sure enough, there is give to it and it creaks. Im bummed.

Gonna see about swapping it out hopefully tomorrow, but dunno if I wanna chance it again. Gonna see how it goes by tomorrow.

Considering how "easy" it is to remove the back of the Razr, it would not surprise me that the same design issue would facilitate creaks.

Still would love crystal ball:

Droid 4: When releasing? Same display tech as Razr (hope so)?

Maxx: When releasing? Specs?

Though I really like the Razr, I like to keep my options open, due to the fixed battery.

Since I have and really like the Atrix lapdock, I am sticking with Moto and Weptop for a while. Great call quality and reception too.
