Root Razr root options..no or yes

i recently got the razr from having the first droid for 2 years..and i had my first droid rooted but i had a problem with overclocking by means of saying that my whole cpu would go frenzy when i would just overclock a little bit so i was wondering is it worth it to root my razr? i know you cant compare a rooted droid 1 to a rooted razr but i need opinions and help

To be completely honesty, the only reason my RAZR is rooted is so that I can run adfree. Other then that, it's great as is (and I've rooted and rommed every phone I've previously had).

I'm with Kelmar. Previously I've always rooted and rommed my phones. With the Razr I don't feel the need to do that.

The droid 1 needed root to make it a better device. A razr not so much. It's plenty fast and the stock rom isn't bad. The only reason to root would probably because you want to debloat it or back up your entire phone.

BTW, welcome to the forums!!! :)

so you guys are still telling people to "ROOT" their phones when what you are really doing is installing your own "BACK DOOR" programs. for someone to take a $700 phone and bricks it because he didnt check "PSA" when installing the ROOT programs or the other things that could go wrong, all you have to say is "SORRY". are you also mentioning that once they ROOT they cant receive ANY over the air updates.

Rooting is no different than having admin access on a PC. Just like a PC, you can mess things up.

Rooting isn't to install "back door" programs, it's so that you can have FULL control of your phone. Like a PC, if there is a program you don't like, you can delete it.

Like a PC, you have to be careful what you do. You can easily delete the system files that make everything work.

It's up to the user to be aware of the risk involved. For example, it voids your warranty. Like anyone else in every other aspect of life, users are responsible for their own actions. We as a community try our best to help users out. Just like a PC, you need to be aware of what you are doing and the risks involved.

Rooting CAN prevent OTA updates. That doesn't mean you can't ever update the phone though! :)

You'll be hard-pressed to find any one say "Root it without doing research. Jump right in without knowing the risks involved!"

Root itself shouldn't prevent an OTA, but a custom recovery will. However you generally lose root when you OTA.

Correct (depending on what you do when you have root of course).

With Moto phones you can typically retain root with the app OTA Rootkeeper from the market. :)

I agree, rooting has always been an option. A lot of people say that rooting is a necessity but that's not always the case. I'd be happy with a non rooted Droid Razr. It's really a solid out of the box phone.
