how can I re-enable the old USB mass storage mode on asus transformer TF701T running 4.2.2, rather than the MTP mode. I have seen tutorials but they require root. I need to re-enable so I can get root, please help.

You can get root without having root. (You use an exploit to get temporary root and use that to get permanent root.) Check

adb root asus transformer

There are lod of tutotials.
