Help Re-install Samsung Firmware

Android Expert
Hi, I installed the leaked version of Android 4.2 but want to revert back to the official 4.1.2 Samsung firmware, can anyone tell me how I go about doing this? Phil

Did you use Odin to flash 4.2? You can flash official 4.1.2 the exact same way. Youll find the firmware on Sammobile.com

Hi, I have started the re-flashing process, the phone has been showing "Downloading" for about 45 mins, is this normal or am I being impatient? Phil

Ok, new problem, flashing done, but phone just keeps rebooting, won't let me get back into download mode or do anything, have tried hard reset and pulling battery, any advise please? Phil

Did you flash the right firmware for UK mate? Will it go into recovery mode (power, home, vol up)?
Hi, this is the firmware I was flashing, my phone is unbranded and sim free, it wont go into recovery mode. Phil

Actually doing the same thing .. The initial reboot can take a while. However, did you wipe the device before flashing ?

If you didn't you would basically "upgrading" your device, which obviously won't work as you go backwards.

If you use a custom recovery like Philz, you can actually wipe the phone for new ROM installs. That gets rid of all the old stuff.

How do you wipe the device? Phil

can you go into either download or recovery mode? if u can get into recovery and you have philz touch recovery then do a factory reset from there and then flash the firmware again. If you dont have philz and are able to get into download mode then download philz and flash it to your phone via odin. Even if the rom is busted you should still be able to get into the recovery unless the rom you flashed has flashed its own recovery.

I dont think he's rooted or anything bro. Was my advice bad? Havent heard of a phone being hard bricked by flashin stock firmware before. I suppose i should have suggested a reset since he's downgrading :(
Hope its ok man. Worst case, its still under warranty

phew! It isnt a brick then :) can you get into recovery? You can factory reset from there then try booting. Youre gona lose all your data though

Hi, thanks for your help, will give it another go tomorrow, have had enough for today!! Getting p##sed off now. Phil

Lol i dont blame you mate. It shouldnt really be so hard but things go wrong and it puts people off ever tinkering with their phone again

its always safer to do a factory reset if you are downgrading the firmware so as to avoid any issues with files. I had done the same on my s3 also but mine was rooted though i had installed the 4.2 leaked rom when it was out then to go back had to do a factory reset before flashing the older rom.

if all you can do is get into download mode, your only option is odin... make sure you get the correct file for your phone, not just S3 but for your carrier as well, all the carriers are a little bit different.

Hi All, I have finally managed to get the firmware installed, I had to do a factory reset, then install the o2 branded firmware, then upgrade to the unbranded firmware, it was the only way it let me install the unbranded firmware. Thanks again for all your help. Phil

When I unrooted my phone, I just hooked it up to my PC and used Kies. That worked for me without having to do a factory reset. Not sure if that would have worked for you if you are putting an older version back onto your phone. The latest update was a higher version than the one I had before while rooted.
