How do I get read reports for sms messages? I can receive them on group messages but not individual ones. It is there an app that has that feature that doesnt require recipient to also have app?

Depending on what phone you've got there, there might be something in the message settings about SMS delivery reports. Of course this is a service provided by your carrier, so if necessary check with them about it.

In addition the recipients carrier has to support delivery confirmation. If you want delivery confirmation, you can use a service like whatsapp. It has delivery, and read confirmation.

You have networks that don't support delivery receipts? That's weird.

OP, just to be clear we're talking about delivery receipts, not read receipts. With SMS once it's delivered that's the end of it, it will not tell you that it's been read. As Sol says, you need an Internet based message app for that.

Thats is what im looking for i think? Im not asking about system sms but something I can download (app etc & besides whatsapp or needs to be on the other persons phone too). Whu can I get a read report for my MMS texts & only a delivered report for sms texts? Maybe understanding how the 2 work & are different may help? Can anyone help me to get actual read reports via text message?

I answered you but went as next post. What internet apps are there & will i use my #? Do they work on Android? And yes I get delivery reports. I even get read reports when I send text to a group but all I get is a 2 second popup that say SEEN BY (recipients #) so I can send a single sms & get a read report to more than 1 person? Why is that

Internet messaging apps are things like WhatsApp, FB Messenger, etc, and all of them require both parties to have the same app. I know WhatsApp uses your phone number, Messenger doesn't, don't know the behaviour of most.

I've never even met a read receipt on MMS (though I very rarely use MMS). MMS is different from SMS in that it does use a data connection, whereas SMS (on GSM networks, i.e. most of the world) predates the existence of mobile data. Other network types (e.g. the CDMA networks used by some US carriers) will handle at least SMS if not both types differently, but I know little about those. Group messages are often sent as MMS (I personally turn that off) so if you are getting different behaviour for MMS that would account for some of what you are seeing.
