Read/Write to USB Flash Drive

Pep

Android Enthusiast
Hi All.

With the correct cable, can I Read/Write files to and from USB Flash Drive from a SIII?

Pep

Yes, of course.

OK. So, then how? What I mean is:
  • To what version of Android does your answer apply?
  • What settings need to be set and under which catergor(ies)?
  • What apps are needed to do this?
  • Various assundry other details that would help both users and developers.
I've been looking for that information but my searches have yielded little useful. If you have a link to the type of info some (if not many) of us need, that would be helpful. Thanks.

You plug in the usb drive and the app "my files" opens. Its a file manager and thats the whole story. Its that easy.

You need the OTG cable

All versions.

No settings required

No apps but the built-in MyFiles.

There is no information required, you just need an OTG cable and that is it.

i thought this would work too but it does not. Instead of getting an OTG cable..i did the next best thing and that is a an adapter piece with a micro usb (male) on one end and a usb (female) on the other...plugs into phone fine..my flash (thumb) drive goes in the other end but the phone doesnt even see it's there. does not show up in my files or any file explorer at all..i may as well have not plugged anything into it.

Of course...i'm wondering if there is supposed to be some extra connection, but i think this would be pointless if i'm requird to have an OTG cable just so the phone to flash drive and computer or some other power source had to be connected at the same time. It's better to have everything completely mobile..but maybe it doesnt work that way.
