In the absence of Thunderbird for Android, during my recent vacation I used GMail on my Kobo Arc to keep in touch. That was mostly successful, except for the need to read and write encrypted messages. I'm experimenting on my PC to find a GMail add-on that works - Mymail-Crypt for Gmail
