Help Reading External SD Card

I would like to run slide shows on my GT-N8010 directly from my camera's SD card. I have purchased the Samsung P30pin USB connection kit that enables me to plug SD cards and USB sticks directly into the tablet's multipurpose jack. However I cannot get the tablet to recognise the camera card - I have tried using the Android File Manager, SD reader and ES File Explorer apps, all to no avail - they only show what is on the on board micro-SD card (confusingly the "External SD Card"). How do I do this?

Did you get one of those aftermarket 5 in 1 adapters that have a couple USB slots and slots for different cards? About 2 inches square that plugs directly into the tablet without a cord? Has a switch for USB or SD card?

I bought one and could never get it to work in any mode. Never recognized by the tablet (N8013). They are junk. The pin started coming out of the housing the second time I removed it from the tablet.

If the one you have is OEM Samsung, it should work. Sorry I have no solution. I have never seen an OEM Samsung adapter that has USB and SD card slots with the 30 pin connector. If you have one, where did you get it?

Back to the original problem, anyone know why this is happening or have a solution?

Sorry for the hijack. When I get mine, I will see if I have the same problem. If so, will work on a solution also.

Well, got mine and have similar problems. Nothing I plug into the Note 10.1 using the Samsung adapter set is recognized. It is as though nothing was plugged in. That makes two different adapters/sets (one OEM and one aftermarket) that I have purchased and neither work. If anyone ever comes up with a solution, please post on this thread.

I had a similar problem when downloading photos from my camera via the USB adapter and I found that restarting the note before connecting the adapter it all worked fine. I also found it better to fit adapter to note first before connecting any USB hardware God knows why I thought it was all supposed to be plug & play.

That is weird as the instructions that come with the Samsung Kit say the following "Before attaching the USB Connection Kit into the your mobile tablet, make sure a portable storage devices are connected first. Otherwise your mobile tablet might be damaged.".

Please note this is an exact quote from the User Manual. Bad grammar and all. They state that throughout the little manual. Always insert the external device before inserting into the tablet.

That said, I tried it both ways with several different devices. Only once did it seem to work. Using the SD card connector worked once with a Samsung 64gb Ultra SDXC card.

What Android version are you on? When I was on 4.2 it was a nightmare to get it to work now on 4.4 and that's much better almost perfect. My camera will not work unless I plug it in after the adapter is fitted to the note so Samsung have that one wrong.

I'm on Android Version 4.1.2. When I click on 'Software update > Update' however I'm told 'The latest updates have already been installed'. FYO my model no, is GT-N8010.

Version 4.1.2 was even worse than 4.2 I was unable to download update over the air so I used the latest version of Samsung kias 4 I think it was and it downloaded instantly.

Updated to 4.4 and Eureka! Finally able to read my SD camera card using jonrud's procedure. Not tried a USB stick yet but great progress nevertheless. Thanks for your assistance.
